I know I need to change the way i control the urges to binge on junk, and Im trying my best 🙂 My mind set re your comment would be "isn't that just a diet then"? How is the DS helping? C. DS patients benefit (and/or suffer, depending on how you look at it, lol) from the malabsorbative function of the DS. I am a sleeve, so I don't have first hand knowledge of this, this is just from what I've read. Now, for all WLS patients as a whole, I believe that the surgery is most helpful as the initial boost to get you on your way. The physical inability to eat large volumes of food in the beginning hopefully sets you up to continue eating that way, when the stomach eventually relaxes and you can't count on it as much any more. Kinda like training wheels, I guess. Some people need them, some people don't. For those with balance issues, its easier to learn how to ride a bike with them. Sure, you can learn without the training wheels, its just makes it easier. Now continuing with this metaphor (which I am loving as I type this btw LOL), there are some who get so used to the training wheels, or rely on them so much, that they never take them off and end up being like those kids who ride their bikes leaning to one side. I need to make a meme about this! This is just my opinion. Ultimately, if you don't think it will work, your mindset will likely set you on a path to prove yourself right. P.S. Further to the screenshot of your food log for yesterday...what is your height and current weight? Also, you didn't specifically mention in your original post, but are currently having issues with losing weight with your current diet? I loved that post LOL My pre op weight was 158KG Im only a week out of DS and currently 156.8, so nothing drastic lost yet. And yeah weight loss is the plan. I was a gargantuan snacker, thinking nothing of eating 10bag of crisp, sweets and snacking all day long before the op. Now im just going to stick to the three meals and one small treat snack per day, IF I've been good with eating throughout the day. 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

If i eat the wrong thing (not the amount) I wanted to end up on the toilet, so i know it's best not to. I don't know how big the portions are you can eat atm. So obviously the surgeon didn't do a re-sleeving? So many RNY patients really "hope for dumping". Like they constantly need to be whipped and punished to stay on track. However, fact is that by far not all RNY patients dump. I don't know about the DS. The stories both surgeons and patients tell seem to be half-truths at best sometimes, not talking about the not-so-ideal-things patients have to deal with (though that's not very different from other WLS procedures in my experience). Sometimes you get a glimpse of it, like in the thread we recently had about "the stuff no one talks about". Specifically in regards to DS patients that might be talk about "having to watch what they eat" to prevent weight gain or that not all of them are thin as a rail while eating 3000 kcal minimum a day or that there are unwanted malabsorption issues regarding Vitamins and minerals in the long run that are not that easy to treat. I'm not familiar enough with the DS to hand out nutritional advice. I also don't know if it makes a difference if someone has a "virgin DS" or a "sleeve to DS" or a "sleeve to SADI to DS". 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

I just really don't get this DS thing I've had. If i didn't have the DS and just changed to eating 1600 calories a day, i'd still lose weight right? If i go into KFC every day and eat the oiliest of fried chicken (i wouldn't btw), then i would expect to maybe not lose weight. So where exactly does the DS come into it. What does it do in the above scenario to help. Eat healthy = lose weight Don't eat healthy = gain weight 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

What does it do in the above scenario to help. Eat healthy = lose weight Don't eat healthy = gain weight I would have lost weight if I'd have eaten 1600 kcal pre-surgery. Did it many times. And during my more "successful" attempts, I'd lose 50 or 60 pounds, and a few months later, I'd start putting it back on, until I was back up at my original weight (in my less "successful" attempts I'd lose maybe 10 or 20 pounds before putting it back on). This went on for decades (I'm 60 years old). Again and again and again. I had over 200 pounds to lose, yet I couldn't even keep 50 off. Or 20. Until I had WLS. THEN I was able to lose those 200+ pounds. Like someone else said, you still have to do the work, but WLS gives you a huge boost. I did regain 17 or so pounds (after hitting bottom) during year 3, which is not uncommon, but since then, I've been able to maintain. Never could have done that without the assistance of WLS. 2 Lynnlovesthebeach and GreenTealael reacted to this

Yes, but only for 5 days, They had to rush my surgery because of the Covid, Dr said he wasn’t sure he would be able to do it, if he didn’t do it now. So just liquids until Thursday. Normally it would be a 10 to 12 day pre op with my Dr. he said he wants that liver to shrink pretty good before the surgery. I don’t think with 5 days it’s going to shrink much lol
