tlugo2020 0 Posted December 11, 2020 I just started my 3rd week post op and now on pureed foods. I was hoping someone might know about eating oatmeal? I was told I can eat Cream of Wheat but I'm not sure about oatmeal. Anyone know?Sent from my SM-N975U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
Starwarsandcupcakes 2,070 Posted December 11, 2020 I ate oatmeal that was on the runny side and puréed in weeks 3 and 4. Now I just eat it runnier than I would before I had surgery. 1 tlugo2020 reacted to this
NovaLuna 710 Posted December 11, 2020 (edited) Every surgeons plan is different. I didn't add oatmeal into my diet until 6 months out, but it was allowed at 3 months out. Personally, I wouldn't eat oatmeal at puree stage. Unless you put it through a blender. catwoman7 11,220 Posted December 11, 2020 I didn't start eating oatmeal until I was a few months out. You'd probably have to puree it pretty well if you were going to eat it at this point. I know we were allowed Cream of Wheat pretty early on, but that's ground pretty finely right out of the box. I'd ask your clinic - but I stuck to whatever kinds of things they told me I could have at certain stages. 1 tlugo2020 reacted to this
GradyCat 3,695 Posted December 11, 2020 Oatmeal is kind of thick, so that's why they want you to have cream of wheat because it's thinner. Thick isn't good at this point. 1 tlugo2020 reacted to this
BigSue 1,392 Posted December 11, 2020 My plan allowed oatmeal during the pureed stage. I ate Protein oatmeal from the BariatricPal Store and had no issues. This is instant oatmeal, so it's pretty mushy. I wouldn't eat steel-cut oats or even old-fashioned rolled oats at the pureed stage. And don't add mix-ins like nuts or raisins.
