TMI Bowel Movements

Recommended Posts

I’ve had very dark green almost black very sticky bowel movements since my surgery on Nov 17

Talked to surgeon yesterday he said sounds like old blood from surgery and didn’t seemed to be concerned. I asked him when should I be concerned and he said if it doesn’t clear up by one more week.

Anybody else have this issue? How long did yours last?

I had weird-colored BM's for the first month or so - then normal ever since. I've heard this before, so I don't think it's uncommon during the first few weeks.

I would have been happy to get rid of the old blood in my system that way... I vomited the old blood up and it was VERY painful! The gas pain was a walk in the park by comparison. If the surgeons office isn't concerned they probably see it happen frequently (they weren't concerned about the vomiting blood either because apparently is normal with my surgery but nobody thought to warn me -_-")

I'd say not to worry about it unless it keep happening after another week. Like others said, sometimes the Vitamins discolor our stool as well, especially Iron.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
