Hi I’m 3 weeks out and at the soft food stage , however I’m having a major craving of poke i love poke . So far everything soft that I’ve eaten has been going great and I’m able to keep everything down ! I wanted to know if poke would be acceptable as a soft food? I was thinking if i were to eat it to get tuna which is soft and and som avocado and some soft veggies on the side . Would this be acceptable? If not i can wait a little longer

Fish and a bit of avocado are probably fine, but be careful of sauces, as they can be high in fat and/or sugar, which can cause dumping. I would avoid any raw veggies for the most part, as they are generally not soft enough. Make sure you chew raw fish really well and stop at the first sign of fullness. Mmmm, poke 😋

Sushi grade tuna used in poke, ripe avocado and cooked veggies are all considered soft foods for the purposes of a soft food diet. For the purposes of a post-op Bariatric diet, however, there may be other things to consider.

Just from a calorie perspective, any added oils/sugar to the fish or veggies and the avocado itself is high in calories. If you have the requisite rice, it is nutritionally inferior to other choices in relation to the volume it would take up in your tum, plus it's pretty carby (if you care about that).

Sooooo...short answer is yes, the food items you mentioned are soft foods and are generally allowed for a soft food diet.

P.S. i love me some poke too, lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
