Just wondering....

I'm taking a long trip (about 500 miles) to my hometown for Christmas. I'll be 3 weeks post op by then. :(

Anyone else done this yet? Any issues with the port site after being in a car for that long? Or stomach issues at all?

Any info would be great!

WTW - I am about 170 miles from my surgeon (3 hours). I went to my 2-week post-op appointment and drove right back the same day. So 340 miles in a day. I didn't have any issues. If you start to feel kind of cramped or uncomfortable, it's not a bad idea to pull over and get out to walk a little bit. But I didn't feel a need to and that was 2 weeks post-op. I'm 2 days shy of 3 weeks since my op and I wouldn't have a problem with a long car journey right now.

I think you'll be surprised how much better you'll feel by then. I can bend over completely and not feel my port at all and it's been this way for awhile. You might take a small pillow just in case and make sure you have plenty of whatever foods you're allowed to eat then, as well as fluids.

Have a great trip!

Oh great!! Good to know! Traveling with my husband and 3 kiddos (11, 8, and 2.5) and that's a handful all on it's own. Just wanted to make sure that I didnt complicate an already stressful situation!!

:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
