Bandsters who have taken a cruises, Please Reply

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone. I was just banded Oct 23rd of this year. In a few months I am taking a cruise with my family. Cruises are soooo much about food. Can you guys share your experiences. Is there any foods that you found hard to digest? Any foods you found particularly pleasant and easier to digest? I am still learning my body, and what I can tolerate and can't. But to be honest, I am kind of stressing a little bit about what I will be able to have. Also did any of you feel the band caused you to have motion sickness on the cruise? I know this is a weird post, but any feedback is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!:help:

I'm a big cruiser. I went on a cruise in August, I was worried about it too. I found I could eat anything, just not as much. I ate Lobster, but this time instead of 2 or 3 lobsters, I was only able to eat one.

Also, I did have dessert, but again, instead of 2 or 3, I only had 1, or 1/2 one, split it with my DH.

I had no problem with motion sickness.

I would take a few cans of pinapple juice with you - just in case you get something stuck, this will help you. I took some with me, but didn't have to use it. I know the ship usually has pinapple juice, but I wanted to make sure I had some in my room, just in case.

I've got my next cruise already booked and I leave June 29, 2008.

I just got back from a cruise last week. I have very moderate restriction, and really didn't have any problems with eating. I still didn't eat bread, which is one thing I still avoid.

I've never had a problem with motion sickness, and didn't have a problem on the cruise. I did catch a nasty cold, though, which is hanging on forever. Make sure you are very careful about using the anti-septic gels (provided on the ship), and wash your hands frequently. Also, take some anti-nausea pills, just in case. We didn't have a problem with the Norwalk virus on our ship, but I know that it continues to be a problem on cruises, and you sure don't want to be throwing up.

My biggest concern was simply gaining weight on an eat-a-thon cruise. But, I gained only one pound, which dropped off the next day back, and two more the next day, so I actually had a net loss of two pounds two days after getting back. That really topped off a great vacation!

(Oh, and an absolutely gorgeous YOUNG man hit on me!)

I went on a cruise 10 days after banding... and I started a thread on it. Look at the past threads I started to locate it. Towards the end of the thread I wrote my reflections after returning from the cruise. It may be helpful to you.

I went to the bahamas exactly 1 week after surgery- on pureed foods . They pureed everything for me. I did not have any sweets only sugarfree treats but it was wonderful--pureed lobster and steak... what a way to get off liquids.< /p>

I went on a cruise 8 weeks after banding and had no problems. I was able to eat at the fine dining about half an entree, the appetizer and the dessert. I tried not to eat between meals and avoided bread. I didn't gain a pound and I didn't have any motion sickness. I had a great time and used the workout facilities on the boat as well. Have a great time and don't stress about the eating, look forward to fun!!!

i was about to make a similar thread.

banded on nov 27th and I am going on a cruise in just 7 days [dec 16th]. the cruise was planned months before the surgery as I would have liked to have more time to heal.. stiches arent even out yet.

ive called carnival [my cruise line] and they said they could puree anything and were willing to do what ever they could to help. that was comforting.. but still- cruises are all about food. Iam interested to see how everything goes.

there is a gym on the boat that I plan on using. but the temptation will be loud everyday.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
