Thanksgiving win

Recommended Posts

I had resigned myself to a very plain Thanksgiving meal this year when I decided to see if there were any good low carb chicken & dressing recipes online. I found one for “Southern chicken & dressing” and it was a huge success! (https://www.mytableofthree.com/low-carb-southern-dressing/)

My mom had laughed & said I’d probably be eating that on my own when I told her it involved almond flour as the main cornbread ingredient. It’s not low fat because it’s made with almond flour, coconut oil, & heavy cream but we aren’t exactly eating much right now. I even decided to sub low fat buttermilk for the heavy cream/vinegar combo it suggested & it was still fantastic. I couldn’t find oat Fiber so I just added the amount called for in more almond flour. I’m not supposed to have onions yet but I used a plain white onion & I didn’t end up with any gastrointestinal distress.
I cooked my chicken breasts in the Instant Pot so they wouldn’t dry out. The dressing was so moist & delicious, y’all!!! I hope your Thanksgiving was as wonderful as mine was!

Nice job! I actually like the taste and consistency of almond flour. I know a lot of people don't like it though... I miss dressing -- I used to cook it year round, so I will definitely try out your recipe.

I had a little regular dressing, two scoops of mashed potatoes & 2 scoops of corn casserole on Thanksgiving (plus turkey and asparagus) but I am 6 months out. I haven't gained anything yet although I know it takes a couple days to see the damage.. but I think I will be okay because that's really all I ate all day besides a Protein Drink.

I am very strict with low carb/low sugar, so I figured one day won't hurt me too much!

I am on soft foods so I was able to eat 2 ounces of turkey mixed with gravy, a tablespoon of mashed potatoes and a tablespoon of cottage cheese. I didn’t have any issues. Yay!

Isn't is wonderful to get on the scale and see that it hasn't moved UP! I basically ate everything, but instead of 2 or 3 full plate loads, I had a salad plate with a little of everything....... but I couldn't finish it. Amazing, when I remember the volume I used to put away. I just LOVE my new life, my new body, and my new little pouch. I feel so NORMAL and that is such a strange feeling, but great!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
