Dear Forum members I will soon receive a Gastric Bypass due to corona I will be on the waiting list now that the surgeon tells me if I use robot technology (The da Vinci Si HD surgical robot) that I would probably be helped faster my question is it just as safe as the normal operation hoping for a response soon.

Robots are very common in a lot of surgeries these days. That's why so many procedures are laparoscopic instead of open. The surgeon still controls the robot though so, yes, they are safe. I'd rather have tiny incisions instead of the big incisions needed when you have "open" surgery!

Thats how mine was done. I'm 11 days out and pain was minimal.

I wasn't aware there was a robot surgery. Good luck!

I had robotic gastric sleeve surgery in August. On my doctors site he had a video showing how it’s done. Very interesting.

I had my sleeve done single incision through my navel and the robotic option isn't available for that. If it had been, I would have deferred to my surgeon since I trust her.

I’ve had multiple robotic surgeries. My first was my gallbladder in 2006. I prefer the Di Vinci over open for sure. There’s less chance of infection because the ports (incisions) are smaller and heal quicker. There’s also usually less pain and less downtime compared to open surgery. Open surgery also comes with having staples or stitches removed while still trying to recover so I find it best to avoid that if I can.

My gastric bypass was done with the Da Vinci robot. My surgeon was oddly insistent that HE would be the one doing the surgery, not the robot, so I guess a lot of people have concerns about having their surgeries done by a robot. But really, don't get hung up on the concept of a "robot." It's really just a tool that the surgeon uses to do the surgery. It's some of the most advanced surgical equipment available, so I looked at it as a good thing. I wanted my surgeon using the latest and greatest technology.

I'm scheduled to have robotic (do Vinci) surgery on 12/02. It's not for gastric sleeve/bypass but for a different procedure. Like others have said, recovery time is shorter/easier and less risk of infection.

It is basically another tool for the surgeon to use. Assuming that he has learned how to use the tool, the outcome still fundamentally comes back to the surgeon - the tool isn't going to make up for poor technique or inexperience, but when used properly, can make the surgery easier and quicker.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
