Hello everyone,

I am 2 weeks post-op for my bypass. I have lost about 30 pounds since my pre-op diet and am feeling really good right now. I am much more comfortable in my own body from just 30 pounds! Only 150 more to go! ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜†

I had nausea the first day after the operation, but none since. I did have excess gas and some diarrhea (no pain involved) but GasX and Benefiber have helped with that.

I have some pain on my lower right side where the main incision was which they said was normal. That pain has gotten a lot better.

Going to see my surgeon tomorrow and pick up the Vitamins. I will start pureed today with cottage cheese. Has anyone heard "Anything is pureed if you chew it enough" ? Is that advisable?

So far, so good. I have not cheated a bit and I hope my healing continues to go well. I got a selfie stick to take before pics, even though I'm a little late with that, but I want to remember what I looked like and most of all how I felt, physically and emotionally.

What questions did you ask at your first post-op appointment? I ask because I always seem to leave something out at the doctor.

I wish you all well!

Glad youโ€™re doing well! Iโ€™ve seen people say anything is purรฉed if you chew it enough, and that makes no sense to me. If that were the intent of the purรฉed phase, there wouldnโ€™t be a purรฉed phase. It would just be a โ€œchew really wellโ€ phase. In my opinion, you donโ€™t want to take any chances with your new stomach. Itโ€™s not worth it. Itโ€™s tough to be so limited in what you can eat, but it will be no time before you get to move on to soft foods and then regular foods. Youโ€™ve gone through a lot to get to this point, so keep it up and youโ€™ll continue to succeed!

To me pureed foods are more denser than liquids but as dense not soft foods, so are still fairly sloppy and smoothish without any lumps or bits of solids foods, however, some post op guidelines have foods at the puree stage that are different to this.

Easiest/best way to do each of the food stages is to follow the guidelines of your surgeon or dietiician and eat the foods that are listed at each stages and prepare as directed.

we were told the food had to be pureed - we couldn't just chew it to pureed consistency.

I was told purรฉe meant sloppy too & that I had to purรฉe everything - even things that were already sloppy like scrambled eggs, rolled oats, etc. I even strained foods after I blended. No lumps, no fibrous bits. If you have to chew, itโ€™s not a purรฉe.

Congrats on having your surgery & good luck on your journey.

What you say makes perfect sense, I had not thought of pureed that way before. And you're right, I don't want to take any chances.

Thank you!!

Your right, I haven't deviated yet so I won't start now. Like BigSue said, I don't want to take any chances on this.

Congrats on doing so well post-op. I just asked my surgeon how things went inside, whether I had any hiatal hernias that she fixed, outlook for what to expect Healthwise and Vitamin wise. Key appointments post-surgery are with your nutritionist.

Thanks to your suggestion, I asked the Doc how I looked inside. He said it was fine, thank God! I already have more than enough health problems.

Thanks for your input! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ’˜

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
