I have had my surgery and everything went well but I had no idea of the pain I was going to have to endure. Had my surgery on Thursday the 19th and was expecting to be out on the 21st. Doesn't look like it's going to happen I have not had a bowel movement yet nor have I pass gas so I won't be getting out. In the last past 24 hours I could not really drink anyting it would fit in my chest and come right back up like a foam. So they stopped me from having any liquids. Today is better I am able to get down some of my pureed food like the yogurt and I'm drinking Ensure clear Apple. Also have some pureed peaches and scrambled eggs didn't care for those. Pain that I had to go through with this gas is no joke. I'm only allowed to walk in my room to help move the gas. I know I needed to have the surgery but I was really thinking I made a bad choice. But today seems brighter and I know this was a good choice cuz I have not had any acid reflux in the last past 24 hours which is a blessing. I'm ready to go home but it doesn't look like it's happening. Feeling okay will keep everyone updated when I get home.

It's miserable at first after the bypass. I didn't have a bowel movement in the hospital, but I did pass gas. The walking really helps with the gas, so you need to walk as much as you possibly can. It sounds as if it's starting to get better as you can keep some pureed food down. I wasn't allowed purees until 10 days after the op; it was just liquids. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Went to order me some all the place I can find them what's the order I'm at Walmart for 24 case. Since I'm home I pray tomorrow will be a better day will keep you posted

I'm so glad things are looking better for you. It will be much better soon honestly. I had complications after the surgery with some effects like you are having. There was a lot more pain for me and I couldn't have any kind of pain meds for the complications with the anesthesia. They did give me my anti-nausea and tylenol with limits.

I was in the hospital just shy a week with a lot of violent vomiting-forget the shakes and drinks! But they just said to take more and used it as an incentive for me to leave that blasted place :-). By God, I took that stuff down, threw up and took more down just to go home!

I was fortunate to not have any problems with bowel movements because I wasn't allowed any pain meds; most of those happen with the meds you take. I still have a ton of my meds sitting in my cupboard (9 weeks post-op now). It was painful and even at home. I was told it would be fine going up and down the stairs constantly but when I got there and had to do it, it was difficult. I was lucky my husband went out to the furniture store while I was in the hospital, opened some credit and there were recliner sofas in the house for me delivered the day after surgery as a nice surprise and man were they life-savers!

But for real, one day in the next week or two (everyone is different) you will wake up with energy and the pain will be like nothing for you. You'll start really losing and it will have been well worth it! Hugs during your recovery.

I already feel skinny and great; even after the really hellacious first few weeks after the surgery. I even still throw up occasionally and still getting used to what I can try to eat (with some not so nice moments when it's wrong) but I feel just like a new person already.

I remember sitting in the hospital room the first 24 hours post-op thinking, "I'd never do this again!" and then suddenly the nausea stopped and everything was right with the world and I've felt great ever since. It's worth it, just a rough few first days. Think about the long run though, not the short-term.

Well I am 4 days out from surgery and I'm really over this gas. I thought I was going to be able to do my job today but i can't sit up for long periods of time so I may need to take this week off. See how next week feels on my belly. I'm able to get a nice amount of Protein in over the past two days home. Been having a hard time with Water but this protein water helps alot. One day at a time.

I'm 69 years old and was told that there weren't any age limits. Has anyone have surgery that was my age or near it? How did everything go? Does anyone think with my age it will be a lot worse? I already went through a gastric bypass surgery in 1980 at 30 and it was awesome hardly any pain. I know this time will be more difficult but I'm willing to try so I can possibly have a better quality of life. To be continued...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
