How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?

For those that don’t have a Renpho, hop on Amazon and grab one! Can’t beat the price. This is what it looks like on my phone. Just have to open the app on your phone then step on scale. So easy!

I'm still getting used to those low numbers myself! For years, I would never step on the scale when my husband was around for fear he would peek at the number. I haven't been to my PCP since pre-surgery, and always dreaded getting weighed in. Now I will be looking forward to it. Ha ha ha!!

You will be there SOON!!!!!!

When I first got my surgery done, I actually had gained over 10 lbs from swelling and the first week kept gaining. But the third week I started losing super fast and I had gotten into the habit of weighing myself every morning in panic first and then in massive relief. Up until a couple weeks ago, it was every morning. I can honestly weigh myself every morning and watch the scale move or not move without problems; I am pretty happy with what i've already lost and gotten to and now just in it for losing at a slow or steady rate but becoming healthier and eating properly.

Now, I'm close to 3 months out and maybe once a week. As long as I know I'm eating the right way (just started this stage as before it was just trying to get things down and nutrients met), I'll sort of check it every Fri. When I started the program back in Feb, my daughter (19 yo) also started trying to lose weight and exercise. We are each other's support; she's lost 52 lbs and is 167 now. We made a chart for the both of us with a square per lb lost; it helped her tons. Now we both have our weigh-ins on Friday morning together.

I weigh daily because I just feel like it keeps me accountable even considering the fluctuations. I’d still rather know and have that in the back of my mind. Jury is still out with studies but they say people who weigh daily are more likely to weigh less

I weigh every morning, but only record my Saturday weight. I don't let little fluctuations play with my head.

For those of you who weigh every day, how many pounds gain do you accept until the alarm bell goes off?

My red line is supposed to be +5lbs sustained over a few days (to allow for daily fluctuations). I like to stay close to 115, so if I go over 120 for a few consecutive days, then its time to cut cals for a bit.

Though I'm considering upping my baseline these days to 120 as it seems its much easier to maintain than 115. I don't notice any fit issues with my clothes, so if I can get over the metal block about it, I just might. We'll see.

I weigh just about every morning too. I used to do it after I pooped but before Breakfast but my routine has changed so it’s after breakfast & after I poop now. Just underwear. I only record the highs & lows of my regular fluctuations (up & down just under 1 kg) - no point recording 100g increments unless it’s a new low or a new high. My current low is 48.6 & high is 49.4kg. I think if I hit 50kg I’d re-examine what I was eating. It’s a small window but I know what I’m like in regards to weight gain.

Weighing regularly keeps me honest & on track. In the past, I’d stop weighing myself if I thought I was putting on weight but I was just trying to ignore the truth of my gains. If I didn’t know how much I weighed I could pretend I hadn’t put on weight.

I record my weight once per day, but I step on the scale a lot more often than that. I'm a weirdo and I record my official weight fully clothed with shoes (also full bladder) because that's how they weigh me at the doctor's office. I'm an engineer, so I guess it's ingrained in me to use the worst-case scenario and build in some margin to my measurements.

I used to keep my scale in the hallway because I don't have a good place for it in the bathroom, and my bedroom is carpeted, so also not a good place for the scale. I walked past the scale many times per day and weighed myself a lot. I had houseguests last month and didn't want the scale sitting in the hall, so I moved it into the closet off the master bathroom and left it there. I don't see it as often now, so I only weigh myself a few times per day, I do step on the scale with various amounts of clothing, after I pee, with wet hair, etc., to see the range, but I only record the official fully-clothed weight.

I should probably get a better scale because the one I have is annoying. It shows one decimal place, but the number after the decimal is always even, so at best, it weighs to the nearest 0.2 pounds. But I don't think it even does that because it NEVER changes by less than 0.4 pounds. It will often be exactly the same for several days and then change by 0.4 or 0.6 pounds.

Alot of digital scales display weight increments by 0.2 lbs and just do some rounding. I really wanted a scale that would show weight to the 100th lb (2 decimal places), but the lowest i could find on the market at the time was 0.1 lb increments.

BUT...i found out by accident that if i hooked up my scale to the “Health” app on my iPhone, weights are shown to the 100th!

Not sure if ur scale has wifi/Bluetooth connectivity (or if you have an iOS phone, lol)...but if i do, it may be worth a try to set up, vs having to buy a new scale...

Haha, no, my scale is not that fancy -- I went with the cheap, no-frills model. No wifi or bluetooth connectivity.

When I started this journey back in the summer, based on recommendations here and other places, I got the RENPHO smart scale. I'm very happy with it so far. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083S5W3PD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
