Rescheduled Surgery

Recommended Posts

A friend is up for surgery this week but had to reschedule because of the surge of covid cases here in California. I am guessing that it's some kind of hospital protocol. But in my opinion, it's for her safety too. What's the situation in your area right now? Do you also have an increase in covid cases?

Our state's COVID positivity rate is just under 10% and getting worse daily. Our governor just shut down bars and restaurants again placed strict limitations on social gatherings, gyms, churches, etc.

terrible here - we're among the top five worst states in the country. I haven't been following what's going on with elective (or non-critical) surgeries, but I'm guessing they've been rescheduled...

Positivity rate in my community is about 20% now. My husband and I tested positive just about two weeks ago now. He is recovered. I am taking steroids for my asthma, but definitely feeling better. I am so grateful I was no longer diabetic and morbidly obese when I got sick. With my asthma, it could have been very ugly. I am pretty sure all of our local hospitals have cancelled elective surgeries, as they are FULL. Our largest local hospital converted a floor of a parking garage into an overflow area last spring, and they reopened it last week.

Stay safe!

All the states are a mess with covid again. I was scheduled back in April for surgery but it got postponed. It was done in June, so a two month delay as all elective surgeries were at the time.

Hello,

I'm from Minnesota all surgeries are canceled here until further notice. I'm a bit bummer because I finally got my approval on Friday. I was supposed to have surgery on December 14th. I got so close but the good news is the prior authorization doesn't expire until June 14th 2021 and my surgeon doesn't think it will take that long to get it schedule. I just pray it is sooner then later. Hopefully they find a vaccine soon so we can all go back to normal.

I'm in CO and elective surgeries have been canceled here through year end. Lots of other restrictions again due to Covid. Hoping that drops the number of hospitalizations so they can start performing surgeries again!

I am sorry to hear that you tested positive. I hope you recover real soon. You can try herbs to help improve your respiratory health.

I'm sorry you and your husband got Covid. I have been trying to be careful since I am so scared of having to take steroids if I needed them. Does your doctor put you on anything to prevent ulcers when you had to take steroids? I know others on here after bypass have had to take a steroid for other reasons but my surgeon said I can never under any circumstance take them but I am sure one day I will need to.

Yes, cases are rising drastically. My friend postponed her surgery for next year

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
