VSG4ababy 1 Posted November 14, 2020 Did anyone start the VLCD for pre op early? My doctor has asked me to do it for 3 weeks. But I have put on 4kg since I saw him. Now I am thinking maybe I should do it for 4 weeks.
catwoman7 11,220 Posted November 14, 2020 we just had to do it for two weeks. I personally wouldn't have wanted to start it early - it was hard enough to do it for two weeks! You may end up dropping most/all of that 4kg the first week. 1 1 AZhiker and VSG4ababy reacted to this
BigSue 1,392 Posted November 14, 2020 I wouldn't recommend doing it for any longer than your doctor requires. It kind of depends on what the diet is, though. Mine was one week with 3 Protein Shakes per day plus a low-calorie, low-carb meal, then one week of all Protein shakes. It's not fun, and it's not intended to be a long-term diet. It's just meant to shrink your liver to make your surgery safer. I don't think it's particularly healthy as a long-term diet, either. You're probably better off eating "real food" for as long as you're allowed, like lean protein, veggies, and complex carbs (like Beans and whole grains). Some pre-op diets are a lot less strict than mine and allow you to eat meat and veggies, so if yours is like that, it might not be as hard to do an extra week. Unless your surgeon has a requirement for you to lose a certain amount of weight before surgery, don't worry too much about that 4 kg. You will lose plenty in a 3-week pre-op diet and of course after surgery. 1 1 AZhiker and VSG4ababy reacted to this

My pre op, is three Optifast products (shakes, bars, Soups or desserts) a day and a minimum of two cups of vegetables. I have a dietitian appointment on Tuesday so she will let me know if I can have anything else. But I think my Surgeon follows Sally Johnston’s complete guide to nutrition for weight loss surgery. So I have read this book and It seams pretty strict for the pre op. I hope I loose the 4kgs and more. I will enjoy meat and solid meals while I can, but obviously not going crazy though as I do not want to put on more weight. the multiple Christmas parties I have coming up are going to be the biggest temptations ever! But I will stay strong! Or just no go haha.
GradyCat 3,695 Posted November 18, 2020 I did it for two weeks pre-op. Take it seriously. You don't want a fatty liver and for them to have to stop the surgery one you're under. No "food funerals" and junk going into this.

Is that like the last meal before pre op? 1 GradyCat reacted to this

A food Funeral is when you eat anything and everything, all the bad stuff, before the surgery, because you know you're not going to get to eat it again after surgery. You pig out on junk food.
