Coffee...oh how I miss it

I drink regular coffee every morning. My doctor didn't have any prohibition against it.

there doesn't seem to be any consensus about this among surgeons. Some ban it forever. Some let you drink it while you're still in the hospital. Some are OK with it after a certain amount of time passes (like one month - or three months - or six months). Some allow you to have a limited amount, like one cup a day. Some allow only Decaf. Some don't even allow that.

I think I was able to drink decaf fairly quickly after surgery. Then I was allowed to have the real stuff once I was six months out. But like I said, there's no consistency among surgeons.

I was not a coffee drinker before my surgery. However, I was addicted to Diet Coke and drank four or five a day.

My doctor said I could never again drink Diet Coke (or any carbonated beverage) and coffee after six months. I started drinking coffee after about eight months and it is my new addiction. I can't wait for my first cup in the morning!

I think it's all about moderation. I bought Decaf and at my first post follow up, I mentioned that the decaf wasn't doing it for me. My surgeon asked how much coffee I drank and I said one large cup each morning and that's it. He said it would be fine. I stopped using Creamer and started using Premier Protein Caramel or Fairlife vanilla plus collagen Protein, so it's a protein bomb too!

My surgeon’s office gave me the green light on coffee at my two week post-op appointment to help with Constipation. I drink caffeinated beverages (no soda) everyday.

I used to drink regular coffee all of the time. I haven’t drank it since I’ve been in this process. Has anyone drank regular coffee after an RNY?

I had to wait 30 days after RNY but then I was cleared for coffee! ... and with a 13 month old + working full time ... it couldn't come soon enough! Some days I mix my coffee with 1/2 with a Protein Shake and other days I just mix with almond milk creamer. Either way, all is right with the world again now that I'm properly caffeinated!

NEED COFFEE! My sleeve was Nov. 9. Dr said no coffee. I swear if I could have one cup, I would be up and moving, getting all my walking done. Feeling like a slug and nothing to look forward to.

The nutritionist said that it's a no for at least 3-4 months, but the reason they gave is that it's makes it too hard to get all your fluids in since there is caffeine which is a diuretic. That being said, I hate that I have to give up coffee and am attempting to switch to Decaf and tea. It's been....difficult.

I'm sleeved but started with no coffee at all. At 3 months I started with Decaf. I'm now 5 months and mixing 1/2 caffeinated and 1/2 decaf. I have a follow up in Dec and will ask if I can do full on caffeinated. I hope so!

My strong cold brew every morning mixed with my Protein Shake helps prevent Constipation :) My doc is fine with it as long as I get at least 64 oz of non-caffeinated fluids in each day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
