Weight Loss Stalls almost 4 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Oct 26th, I will be 4 weeks post op on Monday. I have been losing very well, my weight on surgery day was 292.4 and I'm down to 269.7. But all this week, not even an ounce has been lost... is this normal? Its very frustrating..

we call that the three-week stall, and it happens to almost everyone. If you do a search on this site, you'll find literally over 15,000 posts on it.

just stick to your program and stay off the scale if you have to. It typically lasts 1-3 weeks. You'll hit a few more of these along the way, but like with you, the first one usually hits within the first month or so after surgery.

Definitely normal. Definitely frustrating. Sounds like you are doing amazing! What type of surgery did you have?

I'm so glad to hear that its normal! I had vertical sleeve gastrectomy!

It makes me feel so much better knowing others have experienced the same thing!! Thank you all!

This stall is starting to get really discouraging.. I'm hitting my Protein goal about 85% of the time, I've even started some more strenuous cardio because I thought maybe changing things up would move the needle, and nothing.. this is starting to weigh on me..like I've gone through all this pain, change, completely new lifestyle and I'm stuck....

Patience is key. Stalls can last a while and for some they occur more than once or twice in the early stages. Lots of factors are at play here.

Follow your post-ops guidelines, drink your fluids, be patient, exercise but don't overdo it to chase a loss on the scale.

You must have seen a few non scale successes by now, remember to Celebrate those.

Yes I certainly have saw other success and I guess I should look at them differently.. My clothes are loose, I just feel lighter, but I guess it's a discouragement when that doesn't reflect on the scale.. But I will push through it, I will not regress, just hoping this stall breaks soon!

Your body is just taking a breath. It’s going through a lot - recovery from surgery, change of diet, reduced food intake, etc. it just needs time to catch up with the changes. It may take a week or 3 but you will start to lose again. And it will likely occur again too.

It's TOTALLY normal. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY stalls in Week 4. Not sure why, but it's perfectly normal. Don't sweat it. By Week 6 the weight will be dropping off again.

I am with you!!! I had surgery on 10/13 and lost quite a bit in the first 2-3 weeks. Then got stuck for 8 days, dropped 4 lbs seemingly overnight and now I am stalled again for the past week and a half. It is so frustrating!!! I follow my plan and just feel like it’s not working. 😫

Yes same.. I had been stalled for 8 days then lost 2.4 pounds over night and now have been at the exact same weight to the ounce as the day before for 2 days. It's a struggle..

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
