Hi everyone, my name is Krissie. Thank you so much for sharing on this web site. I feel so much better than I have recently. I am going in tomorrow to Tufts New England Medical center for my first consults. I know that i can ask them many of these questions, but you guys have lived it... First can anyone tell me about the surgery itself? How long does it take? How long are you in the hospital? How long are you off of work? Anything.

Hi Krissie

Welcome to Lapband Talk!

I had my surgery about 15 months ago, and for me, it really was quick and easy! I had my op at about 3pm on a tuesday in Paris, France and flew home to Ireland on the thursday - I was out shopping on friday! Very little pain, quick recovery - it's probably one of the easiest surgeries to have - of course that's my experience, many others found it a little more painful/complicated/inconvenient but I think, all in all, it's normally pretty quick and straightforward!

Do lots of research and read lots of the old posts here for more info!

Best of luck

Hi Krissie,

Obviously you need to get the specific details from your surgeon, but generally people are out of the hospital no later than the next day. Some practices--like the one I used, for instance--do the surgety as outpatient. I was home by 2:00 in the afternoon the same day, Wednesday, and was back at work on Monday.

It's really no big deal; if you've ever had surgery before this will feel like a piece of cake. General anaesthesia is the hardest part (IMO).

Good luck with your consult!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
