9 days post-op and nauseous

Recommended Posts

I’m newly sleeved (10/26) and just wondering if feeling nauseated is normal. I am not vomiting but do have a lot of gurgling going around in my stomach and a real sense of nausea. Still in Fluid stage and trying to get Protein down. Some days better than others. Could it be dehydration?

Also, I’m still in some pain/discomfort on the right side incision where they pulled my stomach out. Is this normal? I find it difficult to bend over or twist at all. I thought it would be better 9 days out.

Sorry, I know that sucks. I had a bypass and for me it was around 2 weeks before the daily nausea went away. And the same before I could sleep in my bed instead of the recliner due to the pain with turning/twisting. After that though I quickly got better. It was like one day I couldn't easily get up out of a recliner and then 2 days later I was back on the treadmill. So for me at least, it was normal.

As for getting through the nausea my biggest hurdle was getting enough Fluid. All my usual fav drinks were making me even more nauseas. I ended up just trying a glass of everything I could think of until I found one that worked. Once I found that is when I started feeling better. Oh, and I also went through a lot of sugar free peppermints so I could suck on something when my mouth tasted gross. Probably not the best choice for someone with candy addictions, but it helped a lot.

I really do hope you find something soon that works for you. And as always, if you aren't sure which way to turn then think about reaching out to your medical team. If they are like mine then they are happy to help.

Nausea is normal post WLS, my surgeon sent me home with anti nausea medication. I didn't need them. The pain from the incision that your stomach came out is also normal. It will eventually go away. I slept in my recliner for a week because of it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
