Surgery tomorrow. I’ve been strangely calm about this whole thing. Doing chores today and prepping for post op. My mom is coming for a few days to help with the kids. I’m over 20 lbs down from my highest weight. I really wanted to hit 250 before surgery but I weighed in at 252.4 this morning. I’m a little disappointed but I met the goal my surgeon gave me.
I'm jelly! Tell me all the good things when you can! I'm scared out of my mind.

Started at 2:00 est finally feeling less groggy and just got up for the bathroom for the first time. Pain is manageable but the gas pain! Oh my! I’m staying overnight so I’m working on my Water sips. Very sore tummy. I apparently also had robotic assist, that’s pretty cool!

Checked in at 9. Surgery around 1130. I didn’t become cognizant of time until about 5pm. Pain meds on board. Nausea meds on board. Using my incentive spirometer. Walking also also really nice.

Mine was also Davinci assisted. Must be becoming the new norm. Didn’t even notice until I was signing my consent. Looks like I might get out tomorrow morning. This has been going great. I’m recovering pretty quickly. They also did a hiatal hernia repair. I’m an RN and really just amazed the nursing staff is not just burnt out from COVID.

For those on here worried, despite what the media says, I have heard no talk of postponing surgeries.

Day 2 pain is under control. Feeling pretty good for just having surgery. Tolerating my post op liquid diet. They gave me some Apple Cinnamon tea. It is delicious. PS my hunger is really gone for now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
