carrielee 87 Posted November 4, 2020 Hi all! I am new to exploring Bariatric surgery and have my initial appointment tomorrow. I’ve struggled with my weight since I was a young child and am now thirty. At my current weight of 293 pounds, and my height, I have a BMI of 54.5 and multiple co morbidities. I suffer from Type II diabetes, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, sleep apnea, hypertension, high cholesterol, tachycardia, arthritis, and acid reflux. My mobility is significantly impacted and I get winded very easily. At thirty I have already had a TIA about a month ago and have been told I’m at high risk of another event or cardiac event. I don’t want to die and want my life back but no matter what diet I’ve tried it’s failed. I don’t know yet what procedure is best for me but I feel like this is my last chance to save my life. I’m here for support and education! 5 STLoser, JoanneLaRusch, WishMeSmaller and 2 others reacted to this

Personally, I read through just about every day to learn as much as possible and help keep myself focused. NovaLuna 710 Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) Welcome to the site and congratulations on the beginning of your journey! I was 31 when I started my journey, 32 when I had my surgery, and now I'm 33 at 9 months post-op. I only wish I'd done it sooner! I had the Loop Duodenal Switch surgery (also called SIP-S) and if you are exploring all types of surgeries and if you get curious about the Loop DS please don't hesitate to ask and I'll tell you about my own personal experience with the surgery. Do all the research you can and find the right surgery for YOU! (though personally, I think Gastric Bypass looks the best at first glance because of your acid reflux. VSG isn't the best option because of that and my surgery has a sleeved stomach... but in the end it's very much a personal choice and very much up to you) I wish you the best! catwoman7 11,220 Posted November 5, 2020 your surgeon will go over the options with you and will let you know if there is a specific surgery that is more appropriate for you given your health/medical needs. If he/she says they have no concerns and that you're a good candidate for any type of surgery, then spend a lot of time reading up on the different surgeries to make your decision easier. They all have their pros and cons. This site is a great place to start!
