Not 3 years but as a Fellow Floridian wanted to help you

Lost 177 in 8 months

Complications: Really none a little heart burn and i get crabby at times when i can not drink

Cravings - White Russians and I now eat what i crave but I eat differently, One thing you will realize is your taste buds will change and your tastes will change a little

But you are on the right place for information

Its the food that is killing you -

I had Dr. Shillingford do my surgery. I hear that they have an amazing bariatric wing in the hospital they do their surgeries in. Unfortunately, due to Covid, I had mine outpatient with a nurse attendant at the Hampton Inn for one night. :( That being said, I have had no complications and I am not depressed because I have been out to dinner several time and as Gator says above, I can still eat, just not as much! I'm down 44 pounds in 3 months (7/30 was my surgery date) and feel great!

I had gastric sleeve last year. Only lost 52 pounds. Dr said I was a non responder to the sleeve planning on the gastric bypass next year.

I am 10 years out. I lost 145 pounds - was 54 years old at surgery.

I eat. I even have a half of a cocktail every once in a while. But half of a margarita fills me up and makes me drunk now ! I eat well, healthfully. I watch carbs. I use rice or Pasta as a sprinkle added to a dish, rather than as the main event. Chinese dinner out (pre Covid) I will order chicken with vegetables and sprinkle some rice on top ! If I grill a small steak - it might make three or more meals for me with salad or vegetables.

I love something sweet - and will have a small serving of ice cream or a chocolate - but that is like three little squares off a cadbury bar !!! But I indulge in very small amounts. My sleeve still helps with that.

No issues. Post op was hard - my body does not like surgery. I needed two nights inpatient to stabilize - but I did well afterwards. No issues no problems.

I'm only a year and a half out from my surgery, but so far I have no complaints. I had a lot of post-op pain, but my surgeon was very responsive and upped my pain meds to keep it controlled. I had no significant complications, I healed quickly and I did lose most of my excess weight (115 pounds so far). The surgery really affected my appetite and cravings have not been an issue up until this point. I do eat and enjoy my food but my appetite is much less urgent than it was pre-surgery. I allow myself a small treat now and then (a small piece of cake, etc.) and then I get right back on plan. Interestingly, something about my relationship with food changed and now I don't derive comfort from "comfort food". It still tastes good, but that emotional hit is not there anymore. Which is a good thing for me. I hope that effect lasts forever, but I'm not counting on it. 😀

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
