Incisional Scars and Creams?

Recommended Posts

My scars are looking lighter but they're still visible. I'm about 2 months post op and was wondering if anyone knows of a good scar cream? I've been using Vitamin E.

I swear by bio oil though I understand some people react to the fragrance in it. Vitamin E was always the go to for scarring. What ever you use just gently massage the scar when applying it. I did it twice a day.

Congrats on your surgery.

@Mr Alley Gator - how much of it do you go through? It looks huge on the screen, but is only one ounce, so I am curious how many jars it would take...? I tend to scar poorly, so I am interested in this thread as well.

Bio Oil top ingredient is mineral oil --- which is made from petroleum... IE, baby oil... which I don't let touch my skin.

I used one jar over a week on my incisions just touch a q tip to it and rub it on every other day

This is the one I use every day my dermatologist prescribed this one

A neighbor of mine who got a Tummy Tuck swears by silicone tape. Haven't tried it myself, but my wife has been putting it on our youngest who got stiches on his forehead a week before I got my sleeve.

I know Neosporin has an ointment that lists that it can be used on scars, I used it for awhile after my surgery, it is worth a try.

I just had my 3 month post op visit and the doctor recommended Mederma. I just purchased it and will be using it. Let's hope it helps!

Bio Oil worked for me. My scars two years post-op just look like freckles, barely noticable.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
