Hello all. I had gastric bypass on 9/16/20. I’m having a very hard time eating Protein every 2 hours. My dietitian said the I must eat every 2 hours! Does anyone have this same problem? I need to consume 90 grams of protein a day. Any suggestions are welcome.

No my plan does not require that lol. I think that would be difficult. Mine is just 60-80g protein whether by shake or food but the protein isnt as important to my doctor as the Water is in my specific case. I dont even want to suggest Protein Shakes because they are nasty so instead i will recommend to you milk called fairlife. It has protein in it goes down ok for me so long as im slowish. Check that milk out. Now i also eat little mini sausages w cheese inside dipped in sugar free bbq, Sometimes a square of cheese on the side, Some chili from wendys Things like that

Oh my god! Thank you for creating this thread! I'm post op (10/14/20) and I'm supposed to be getting around 40 fl oz of Water plus as much Protein as I can, plus pureed food. It's unreal the amount of what I need to intake when I'm also struggling with acid reflux and gas which prevents me from intaking really anything.

I'm struggling to get a cup or two of any liquid (protein, water, pureed food) down at all during the day. I know this is very doom and gloom but I'm not even sure how they expect this much intake (I've been talking to my surgeon so he's aware).

How far out did you eat the chili from Wendy’s?
I had my surgery 9/29/20 and had chilli from wendys this week (week 3) my dr suggested it since all the other bland food I'm eating literally make me sick.

Hello

I had my gastric bypass on Sept 23 and received the exact same requirement and it is a struggle. I normally do a shake for breakfast about 25gram, one throughout the day at 25 gram and a yogurt of about 15 grams and heavy protein rich meats. I also eat every 2 hours and throw in a sugarfree apple sauce. Good luck

Anyone know if I can eat a chicken salad? I'm 8 weeks out and looking to add variety to my dining choices. I'm so tired of focusing just on Protein that it's not becoming repetitive!

I would talk with your doctor, nutritionist or dietician. My doctors plan is for us to be on full solids, so any food you can eat by 8 weeks out. Fish and chicken salad and all fruits and vegetables.

Depends on your surgeon's or nutritionist's plan... at 8 weeks, I'll be on "normal" food. Chicken salad is pretty soft, I can't imagine it not being okay at 8 weeks out, but yeah, follow your plan.

I'm 5 weeks tomorrow and also finding it hard with the fluid/protein/calorie intake, though I've been told only 60g Protein pd - 90g would be really hard. The only Protein Shake I can stand is an iced latte flavour 22g protein (Ufit brand), and it has to be ice cold. Just about the only other liquid I can drink without feeling sick is Water and I'm still having to sip sip sip all day to get enough in. My saviour protein wise has been high protein yoghurt - 25g in 200ml yoghurt which I eat through the day (I buy a UK supermarket own brand). I buy plain which I add some pureed fruit to and also fruit flavoured. I've also been eating protein heavy Soup which I've been told can also be counted towards my Fluid intake which helps there. I can't seem to get eggs, meat or fish down at all yet without it sticking. Because most of what I'm having is very liquidy I'm not worrying about the "no fluids half hour before/after food" atm. I'd never get anything eaten if I did. I'm hoping it gets easier!

I’m going to Atlantic City for my honeymoon this summer and I know I will be on the soft foods phase. What are some food suggestions I could do to enjoy my
time in the casinos and on the boardwalk ?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
