Update on "too tight?"

Recommended Posts

Thursday and Friday I did my liquids all day. Saturday and Sunday I had my pureed/mushies.

I had eggs for Breakfast both days - if I ate 1 whole egg, that was a lot. Saturday's egg went down fine, Sundays I felt stuck but it went down.

I tried broccoli bread on Saturday, threw up 6 times (3 times had food in it, the rest was just thick stuff that looked like spit). Went and got my pineapple juice, almost instantly felt better. I had a about 1/3 of a bowl of Soup later on that night and again felt like I was getting stuck. Drank more pineapple juice, felt better.

Sunday I had some creamed spinach in the afternoon and the remainder of my soup from the night before. Felt good. Sunday night I went to the diner and had a few bites of smashed up meatballs (with extra sauce) and sauteed spinach. Got stuck after I ate the spinach. Brought that up, felt better, drank some pineapple juice and felt 100% better.

Starting today (Monday), I'm back on solids. I had 2 turkey sausages and oatmeal for breakfast. Chewed the sausages really well, felt fine after. The oatmeal was really watery, so it went down great.

I'm guessing that I have REALLY good restriction, and I have to chew A LOT more and make better decisions on what to eat. Broccoli bread is DEFINITELY out of the question. So is spinach.

It's wierd to have such a little amount of food fill me up.

Katz, what you are experiencing is good restriction. Try and stick to just a couple oz of lean Protein followed by a vegie. 2 sausauges is about all I can eat as well. Good luck.

Katz, there are 2 types of too tight. Too tight to liquids and too tight to solids. If you are tight to liquids that is bad. If you are tight to solids and don't mind softer food and can still lose you may be okay. If you can consume 1-3 oz of Protein without a problem you should be okay. In my case, it takes me really eating a softer diet to lose. I hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
