Blyss 12 Posted October 17, 2020 And absolutely frigging starving. I've not eaten in five days. I'm not getting down as much of the Protein Shakes as I'm supposed to because they're gagging me and I can't get them down. I'm so hungry. I'm tempted to find something to eat but really trying to be strong. This sucks. I have 8 days to go. #miserableSent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app
healthy days ahead 11 Posted October 18, 2020 What Protein Shakes are you using?
healthy days ahead 11 Posted October 18, 2020 I couldn't do the premiere Protein Shakes. The Fairlife Protein shakes are awesome!!! U have to order them online but you can find then in convenience stores. Also Walmart has Protein2O waters that have 10-15 grams of protein that will help also. I just went thru all of this. My surgery was on the 14th 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
The Greater Fool 2,054 Posted October 18, 2020 At such times, there are quotes to help me get through: "No, not those quotes, new quotes" There is a quote for every situation. Let me rack my mind for new ones: Well, obviously, "you'll get by with the help of your friends." This has already been in play. You are and will be getting great advice. For instance... "Variety is the spice of life." I don't usually shill for BariatricPal, but they have Protein variety packs, give it a shot and go through them until you get a hit. "Careful what you wish for." This should be self evident, but remember why you are doing this to yourself. And, as always, "wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas" because by then you will be well past all this. Good luck, again, Tek
GivinItMyALL 169 Posted October 18, 2020 Are you on your pre-op diet, or post surgery? All you're allowed is Protein Shakes and nothing else? Have you tried multiple kinds? Like @healthy days ahead, I also think the fairlife ones are really good. I also like muscle milk light vanilla, but don't really like the chocolate. Premier vanilla was ehhhhh... I think it's just a matter of finding what you like.
nicolenat 2 Posted October 18, 2020 The Protein Shakes aren't easy to keep down and I have very little hunger but I know I need to eat something before I completely fall apart and lose all mental motivation. I read that people eat KFC mashed potatoes without gravy. I don't think that's ideal but the texture is okay and it coats the throat so there isn't too much gas/acid reflux. Maybe it'll help satisfy a craving without making you go back on your path. Sorry if this is a terrible idea. I had some KFC mashed potatoes today but only got 2 little spoonfuls of it down. kellym1220 474 Posted October 18, 2020 Are you post op? If so, follow your surgeons recommendations, but things that worked for me post op during the liquids stage were: 1) Swanson Bone Broth - 9 grams of Protein and it comes in a cup you can heat in the microwave 2) sugar free Jello, made from scratch with some GENEPRO protein stirred in. I put it in 2 oz cups. 3) Later, went to Panera and strained my favorite Soup (Corn Chowder) But as others said, try different shakes and like everyone else recommends, try Fairlife. YUM GOOD LUCK!!! Sue L G 1 Posted October 18, 2020 Is it the texture? I liked the Isopure Protein Drinks from GNC nutrition. They are clear and have a very light taste. If you can handle a milky drink, the Lean shake 25 (also from GNC) have Girl Scout Cookies flavors. They are good, but very sweet. And plain hot chicken broth or the instant Protein chicken broth. I wouldn't go straining restaurant Soup just yet. You need the protein and they probably have a lot of salt.
Blyss 12 Posted October 18, 2020 I am pre-op. My surgery is 10/26. They gave mr the Bariatric Advantage high Protein Meal Replacement powders. I'm to drink four a day. It's partially taste, partially consistency but I'm barely choking one a day down. I have a bunch of Premier Protein shakes of various flavors ready to go for after surgery. I like them. I just don't know how I'm going to get through the next 8 days.Sent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app

I was allowed only specific shakes - I think about 8 choices. The first ones I tried (out of convenience - ensure high protein) made me feel the same way as you. I didn’t want to drink them, I felt nauseated and gross’s I switched it up to the recommended Slim Fast one (also the cheapest) and the only plant based one and it made such a difference!!! Sent from my Pixel 2 using BariatricPal mobile app Sounds like my pre-op was the same as yours. 14 days of Bariatric Advantage HPMR of 3.5 shakes per day. I also struggled with the texture. I had the vanilla flavor and mixed the powder in 16 oz crystal light lemonade with lots of ice. To me, it is worse with any milk or alternative milk products. That is basically what got me through, lemonade. I tried different flavors of crystal light with it, but liked the lemonade the best. I have one bag of the shake mix left post op and am forcing myself to use it up since it is so expensive. I could not tolerate any Protein Shakes immediately post op, but drink at least one per day now, at 3.5 months out. Can’t say I enjoy them, but they do get the job done. Hang in there! You are almost to the losers bench! ps. It is still disgusting with the lemonade, but a slightly lower level of disgusting. 😂 Just power through this. Sue L G 1 Posted October 19, 2020 You should be able to use any brand of low carb low sugar high Protein Drink.

Yeah, I had a similar issue and I found a brand I could tolerate (Evolve in my case). I ran it past my bariatric team, they reviewed the nutritional info and gave me the thumbs up. So if there's something that works for you and has about the same macro values, they might be fine with it. 1 NetNet254 reacted to this
