The only option: Revision sleeve to bypass!

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve surgery in 2013 and have had GERD 6 months after the surgery. I have been on omeprazole for 7 yrs. I went from 40 mg once a day to twice a day. My surgeon now feels that a revision is necessary to resolve this issue. I just meet with him on 10/14 and I am scheduled for surgery for 11/19 upon approval from my insurance company. I will have the revision and repair the hiatal hernia I have too. I did not think it would be this soon. I'm a little worried but looking forward to not having to worry about taking these pills and the effects if I dont. Alot of my family does not know I had the sleeve so now Im concerned about Thanksgiving when I will still be on pureed foods. Not sure what I will do but just praying all works out well.

Maybe just tell them your tummy is still really sensitive from the hernia surgery? They don't need to know you did stuff in addition to the hernia repair.

They usually have hernia patients on the same phases of diets as WLS patients to let the hernia site repair. Besides, mashed potatoes and gravy are one of the best thanksgiving sides anyway!

That's rough.

Gosh, it's just too bad that you got exposed to the novel corona virus around, oh lets call it November 20 when you were getting your hernia repaired. The hospital says you must now isolate for 14 days. You really want to have Thanksgiving with the family, but you just simply will not risk their health. I'll have to settle for seeing everyone at Christmas. Darn.

Good luck,

Tek

Just had gastric sleeve to gastric bypass surgery on 10/29/20 for surgical treatment of Chronic GERD/Gastritis/Esophagitis. The good news is I haven't had reflux since surgery. Of course, I've had to deal with the diet restrictions of surgery, but it will be so worth it when I've healed, lost weight and no longer have to sleep in a recliner due to GERD!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
