Will I be the Christmas turkey???

Recommended Posts

I was banded November 19th. Have lost 10 pounds as of today. Thank you very much.... :clap2:

When I fist got home I couldn't tell where exactly my port was. I didn't realize I was swollen. Now that the swelling has gone down, I can definately feel it. Matter of fact, it kind of protrudes. Will I have a wierd knot on my tummy from now on? It really started to bother me... I guess it bothered me more that I thought. DON'T LAUGH but I even had a dream that I had one of those little red and white plastic things that comes in a turkey that pops up when it's done. I dreamed I had lost my weight and it popped out. Dumb, I know, but I'm afraid now that as I lose my weight and I have less and less fat on my abdomen that the port will protrude even more. What do you all think? Does yours protrude like that?:P

I can just about find mine-but it was definitely more swollen until about 2 months post-op. Check with your doc so you can restyour mind.

I've always been able to feel mine. There have been some people who lost their weight and could see a bump where it is, and they just had it repositioned, or converted to a smaller port (usually during a Tummy Tuck or some other procedure).

I can very clearly see my port and it is not the scar tissue. Actually when I am standing up I can see it even better. I was not expecting that but I don't mind. My surgeon is going to move it if I want when I have lost more weight.

I can always feel mine but it doesn't show through (yet). Mine is really high under my ribs so I don't know if that helps or not.

I've heard of the revisions too where you can get it located somewhere else, deeper, or get a smaller port.

One of my best friends has a lap band, and hers doesn't show at all. You have to press hard on her tummy to find it. Even though, her two boys call it her alien transmitter! I had to laugh about that. I guess now we are officially Borg??? I guess I don't mind a bump, but I'm afraid it will interfere with the waistband on my slacks when I don't have to wear an elastic waist anymore. Weird I know.

wombat,

My port is high up there too...I don't like that it's that high. Doc did mention that he would move it if I was uncomfortable with it that high.

I can feel it when I lie on my side and still have to have a squishy pillow there when I'm sleeping ;)

Ok...this post and the thought of you with a turkey popper in your side makes me laugh out loud.

Well, my surgeon told me that this would happen, so I knew about it from the beginning...but, as of now it is not too obvious. It is, however, uncomfortable in high waisted pants.

Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
