ZeeWP 3 Posted October 15, 2020 Hello everyone! Had my bypass Monday Morning. Immediately waking up I felt awful because they had complications during surgery and I couldn't get on narcotics. However, after the happy drugs I started to progressively get better. But today (Thursday) I feel much worse. I am not getting much in Protein and calories wise, I am lucky if it's more than a couple of ounces a day. I also haven't pooped since Saturday night. I originally chalked it up to not having anything in my stomach, but now I don't know... Any ideas or tips?
The Greater Fool 2,054 Posted October 15, 2020 Congratulations on making it through surgery. I don't recall feeling particularly chipper on day 3, of course I was still in the hospital. For context, my surgery was open and other things were also being done. By about day 4 I was afraid I was going to die. By day 6 I was afraid I wouldn't. Then it got better tolerably well. Effectively not eating for 3 days after a difficult surgery it would be amazing if you didn't feel like crap. Just focus on getting Protein (drinks?) and fluids. Do the absolute best you can. It's all you can do. You will do better quickly. Don't expect to feel less that yucky for several days yet, but each day you should marginally improve. Keep plugging away. AZhiker 2,253 Posted October 15, 2020 Day 3 is rough. Hang in there. It really will get better. Your #1 goal is to get your fluids in!!!!!!! Protein is not as important as fluids. Sip whatever Protein Shake you can, but you must get the other fluids in as the top priority. Get up and get walking. I know it's hard, but it really will help. It doesn't have to be a lot, but you've got to do it throughout the day. If you haven't gotten a step tracker yet, get one. It doesn't have to be a fancy expensive one. I think I found some for about $25 on Amazon. It will help motivate you to get moving. Blood clots are real (I know cuz I got them after surgery) and moving is the best way to prevent them. This will get better, promise. From this point on, each day should get a little bit better. Congrats on a new life ahead! 1 Neller reacted to this

STLoser 1,099 Posted October 16, 2020 Yeah those first few days were the worst. I questioned why I even did this! After day 3, things got better and recovery was actually pretty easy compared to other surgeries I've had. gehibbs 0 Posted October 16, 2020 AGREED. I had revision to bypass on 9.04. You have to get the Protein into your body. shakes, scoops in water....whatever it takes. When you do that you will feel better.....

loridee11 522 Posted October 17, 2020 Swelling peaks a few days after surgery, so it is common to feel worse before you feel better. It's also common to go a few days (and some people up to a week) without a BM... not fun! Talk to your doc about what meds they'd be OK with you taking and know that given a little time it will get better.

The Rising Phoenix 0 Posted October 22, 2020 Thank you for sharing this. I also had my RNY done on Monday morning, and have been in so much pain. I’m glad it’s not just me. Still waiting for my BM though. 😖
