Kikikiki 13 Posted October 15, 2020 Hi! So I’m due for my colonoscopy/endoscopy on Monday to see if I have gerd or a hernia or something else that’s causing all my issues and I need to prep for it from 2 days before... I’ve noticed that since I’ve been sleeved, I’m so much more sensitive to medication and my stomach is so much weaker then it was before so im not looking forward to this.... I was wondering if anyone else who has had wls and has had a colonoscopy how did you go with the prep?
RickM 1,752 Posted October 15, 2020 I had one a few years ago and didn't have any issues with the prep - no real difference that I could remember from when I had one before surgery - but then I do seem to have a sleeve of steel that gives no particular problem with any food or medication. My wife has a bit more difficulty, though that is more due to her having a DS where the intestinal rerouting makes the cleanout somewhat more fussy (she needs to do the liquid diet for a couple of days to lighten the load, so to speak, rather than the more normal day before thing.) The last time she had one, the doc did give her a special cleanout mix that uses less volume than others (some of which have you drinking a gallon of that crap in a fairly short time). Hope yours goes easily - none of this is much fun.
AZhiker 2,253 Posted October 15, 2020 (edited) I work in a GI department. There is no difference in the prep for WLS patients. They do just fine - at least just as fine as anyone else. No one is actually thrilled with it. Some tolerate it better than others, but I have not seen any correlation between tolerance and WLS. BayougirlMrsS 3,935 Posted October 15, 2020 I have mine coming up in Dec. and i was wondering the same.... like there is no way i can drink the amount in the time frame they are saying. Also, i'm going to be required to do a liq. diet for the day before. I can't afford to lose any more weight and i know if/when i do this i most certainly will. If i miss dinner, the next day i'm down a pound. I did tell the GI assistant about my WLS and she didn't seem to concerned.
