How long after gastric sleeve did you wait to drink

Recommended Posts

I was told no drinking until I reach maintenance stage although they would prefer it if I never drank again.

RNY here (so not sleeve). However, all patients (VSG and RNY) at my clinic were told to wait a year. I waited three years, but then, I never was much of a drinker. I probably have a glass of wine two or three times a year now (and I can definitely feel it after just one glass!)

I nursed a small gin & tonic for three hours at about 2 months at my cousin’s 40th. Then didn’t have another drink for a couple more months. I used to enjoy at least one large glass of wine, scotch or gin every night. Now I’m just not that interested. My taste buds have changed & I don’t enjoy it as much. Plus, I admit, it’s often not worth the calories. I don’t even really miss it when out socialising & if I do have a drink, I sip it for ages & often don’t finish it. My last drink was a month ago when I had three drinks over a girls’ weekend & didn’t finish one of them.

If you do decide to try a glass, go slowly, let any mixers flatten a little. And remember not to drink about 30 mins before & after eating. (It’s easy to forget when you’re partying but so very uncomfortable if you don’t wait.)

Enjoy your Vegas break.

I'm a non-drinker so maybe I shouldn't comment on this one. Sounds to me like a test. You should only incorporate healthy foods and drinks into your diet at this point. If you go to Vegas and stick to your diet, you'll come back more confident knowing you overcame the hardest trial. For me, when others partake but I pass on Cookies, soda, or fried foods I know I'll be fine.

Will probably get slammed for this one... But... My birthday was exactly 1 month after my sleeve and I had a drink. Just one and I mixed Vodka with Diet Cranberry. Honestly, I was surprised that I didn't want more than one since I was a somewhat heavy drinker before surgery.

It's very strange to me as someone who really enjoyed social drinking that I now prefer Water over anything else.

I had a small glass of wine about a month and a half out. No problems whatsoever. I "Drank Drank" about 3 months out. Multiple Crowns on the rocks at Hunting camp for three straight nights. No physical problems except a small weight gain from the calories and that came right off after a couple of days. I think you'll be fine if you take it easy. Enjoy Vegas and don't get locked on the roof of Caesars Palace! :1311_thumbsup_tone2:

I haven't yet. I normally only have a drink when I'm traveling and due to the pandemic, I haven't been anywhere!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
