over65 133 Posted October 10, 2020 I had gastric sleeve May 28. Will have 6-month check up end of November. Just this week, I am shedding hair everywhere. But I have very fine hair but plenty of it. Don't see any bald spots. So not concerned and expected. My 3-month checkup blood work showed all Vitamin levels and other tests perfect. I am just 9 lbs above clinic's goal weight with seven weeks until 6-month checkup. My post-op experience has been extremely smooth. No pain with eating. Always getting all my Protein and Water requirements without any issues. Eating normal food now with just one Protein Shake per day. Stats: 5'1", age 67, female. Highest weight: 245. BMI 41. Surgery Date: May 28, 2020. Weight at surgery: 211. VSG. 2 GreenTealael and AZhiker reacted to this
colormehappy 124 Posted October 10, 2020 It more or less happens to everyone. I had surgery on 6/2 and my hair is falling out like crazy too. It should stop before the year mark. 2 MaybeMeow and GreenTealael reacted to this
Arabesque 7,417 Posted October 11, 2020 Aahh, the dreaded Hair loss. It occurs as a result your natural hair loss cycle speeding up because of the shock of the surgery to your body & reduced caloric intake. As much surgeon said: the nutrients you are consuming have better things to do then grow hair at the moment. It usually starts at about month 3 or 4 so you are a bit later. It will stop but how long it will continues & how much hair you will lose is very individual. Some people will swear Biotin helps, adding Vitamins specific for hair or using special shampoos & treatments help. They likely will make your new growth stronger but there’s really no hope for your existing hair - it already has a death sentence. You just have to give your body time to get used to your new diet & to recover from the stress you’re putting on it. Also, it’s not uncommon to notice a change to the texture of your hair from the going under general anesthetic. It too will improve as the anesthetic works itself out if your body. Congrats on being almost at goal. Woo hoo! 1 GreenTealael reacted to this

kelly Lake 17 Posted November 5, 2020 I am 9 weeks post op R&Y And I say no worries on the hair I have super thick individually fine hair too so Except for the hairline I'm not really worried about it. With lockdown looming again you hopefully can just be home relaxing losing weight I also got a recommendation from my girlfriend who is a hair guru and owns her own salon, don't wash your hair a lot, once a week if possible is sufficient, ALWAYS take your Biotin and an additional hair skin nail Vitamin if you can get one, Use gentle Shampoo and conditioner and no styling products or tools. Our hair follicles are going into a resting phase due to the shocking traumatic event of surgery and the changes in our diet which is also traumatic to our bodies. Giving your scalp a much needed rest after your bodies traumatic surgery will allow the follicles to rest and recover quicker. Hope that helps! 1 MrsMulehead reacted to this
