I doubt it, currently a lot of hospitals aren't even allowing visitors or someone to wait with some just before surgery. I can't imagine they would allow three children in your hospital room. Who would look after them? Who would feed them? Who would keep them out of the way of medical equipment? Who would pay for it all?

Does the hospital have a social worker? If so perhaps have a chat with them, they may have some options for you or be able to facilitate something at the hospital.

Other than that, if friends aren't able to look after the children for the three days you should look at delaying your surgery until family are able to assist.

You can ask, but my hospital would not allow anyone in my room because of CoVid. In fact, when my sister came to pick me up -- she had to wait outside in her car and they wheeled me out to her. But again, it does not hurt to ask.

Having worked in several hospitals for 43 yrs, my guess would be no, even before the pandemic, unless they are over 18 yrs of age. Where I work now they only allow overnight guests in Pediatrics and labor and delivery. Also, no visitors allowed under 18 yrs of age at all during this pandemic. You may have to hire someone to care for them at home while you are in the hospital. Maybe you won't need to stay 3 days. Most only stay 1 or 2 nights.

I went home the next day after x-ray was cleared. My husband had to wait outside in the vehicle as I was wheeled out for discharge.

I was "almost" outpatient, and while it can be done, depending on the age of your children, you may need a sitter anyway! I spent one night in a hotel near the surgery center with a nurse attending several of us and drove home the next day...then sent the next two days groaning and taking pain meds. I think that would be very scary for a young child...luckily my 25 year old was able to take care of me!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
