Bypass here but from what I understand liquids and sliders foods (yogurt, Soups, Protein shakes) go through fast as in 15-20 minutes. Water I think goes thru immediately since I can drink 8 oz. of water in less that 5 minutes. Solid foods for me I am guessing around 45-60 minutes just based on when I feel full and when I can eat again.

I am curious if anyone has the factual info. since I am just guessing based on how I feel and what I have read.

Actually...

Our 'pouch' is made from our stomach and is all that is in use of the stomach now. Since we have no pyloric valve, everything goes straight through the pouch into the intestines starting immediately.

VSG folks have a 'sleeve' that is like our 'pouch', but VSG still has a pyloric valve which is the gatekeeper out of the sleeve/stomach. It can be quick or slow. It would probably be quicker than a normal stomach, so I'd say a few minutes.

When I had VSG, maybe 5-10 mins for liquids, 15-30 solids

With my RNY, immediately for liquids, 5-10 mins solids

I don't really know when my stomach was actually empty, honestly, but I can tell you when I no longer felt full (after feeling full):

In the first few months it was 1.5 to 2.5 hours

Around the year mark, it was around 1 to 1.5 hour.

Now (at 2 years), its about 1 hour (less if I am only eating salad greens)

P.S. I get to "full" faster, and stay full longer, when I eat denser food (in particular pork and/or shiratake noodles)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
