We all know that Hair loss is likely due to WLS. I’ve accepted it, and am dealing with it. However, since WLS, my remaining hair is dry, frizzy, and brittle. I use good, moisturizing Shampoo and conditioner (salon-recommended stuff), only wash my hair twice a week, and take Biotin and all other recommended Vitamins.

Is this a new norm? Any thoughts on improving my crazy-lady hair?

Same here! Dry, brittle, awful. My guess, in my case anyway, is the (drastically) reduced fat intake, about ready to work a few slices of avocado back in. Holding me back is avocado is def a trigger food for me....love, love that stuff. Argan oil treatments would likely cause less weight gain.🙄

Mine has finally stopped doing that, and has started growing like crazy.

I only wash my hair twice a week now, and use argan oil after I shower. I do, however, have SUPER dry skin, so I have to do a full body rub down twice a day with gold bond eczema cream. The hair was definitely annoying, but as long as you keep getting your Vitamins and your calorie intake eventually goes up, it'll calm down.

My hair fell out during the first six months to the point where I completely shaved my head and wore wigs for a while. Hang in there. ❤️

This sounds terrible!

But I need to address, the Hair loss after surgery is usually not so big that one needs to shave the head. Hair loss is overall on the head, and not in Patches (if you loose in Patches there is a reason to worry), it might seem like a lot of hair, but 99,9% of people will not get bald, just have some thin hair for a few months.

It was falling out a lot and I am a little overdramatic, I will admit. I was just getting sad every time I brushed or washed my hair and pulled out clumps. To clarify. ❤️ Sorry for worrying.

Mine is VERY wiry at the moment, I'm about to bite the bullet and have it cut into a bob to get rid of the dead ends. I'm approaching the 6 month mark and hoping desperately that what I've read here is right and it'll stop falling out then! The argan oil is a good idea though, don't know why I haven't thought of that. Fingers crossed for less frizz in the very near future CheerfulLoser

You might need a different Shampoo and conditioner. Maybe call the stylist that suggested your current products and explain what’s going on. They might have a new recommendation for you.

My hair was getting really dry n brittle and I started taking collagen. I mix it in my Protein Shake and espresso latte every morning. My hair and skin have stopped drying out and I have to tell you my joints are feeling a bit better also. I have been doing for only 1 month and feel pretty good .

Thanks for all the thoughts—I think I’m going to take a few weeks and just play around with all the suggestions so far. I ordered some Argan oil, a few deep conditioners, etc. if all else fails, I made an appointment with my hairstylist and will get a pixie. 🙂

It’s likely the anaesthetic. Many non wls patients comment on dry, brittle or frizzy hair a couple of months post surgery. My mum & her neighbour both complain about the change in their hair texture after their knee replacement surgeries. It’s a pretty common side effect of having a general anaesthetic. The Hair loss is the shock to the body & restricted diet. Your hair texture will improve over time you just have to wait for it to work out of your system.

Youcan also try this product that the hairdressers use it’s called it’s a 10. It’s a leave in conditioner. It is pretty impressive. Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
