Anyone have a sleeve that was Low BMI?

Recommended Posts

I have a BMI of 32. I have called a few places in my state (Utah) and they all say I need to have a BMI of 35 or higher. I know that I will have to pay out of pocket, but I am having a hard time finding somewhere that will do the surgery for a sleeve with BMI 32. Where have you had your surgeries?

You can have the surgery if you have BMI 30 or higher with cormodities. Most out of pocket surgerons will not decline as long as you are not a health risk patient.

I had mine in Europe. 5000 euros

The places I called around here will only do 35-40 bmi with certain health issues or 40 bmi + without other health issues. I think I will have to go out of state.

that's pretty common in the US, so I'm not sure if going out of state will help or not. But it'd be worth checking. Maybe Mexico?

Do you know anyone that has surgery in Mexico? I am really contemplating México, but I am nervous.

I don't personally know anyone who has done it in Mexico, but there seem to be several people on this site who have. Hopefully some of them will chime in. There are some good surgeons in Mexico, but you have to do your research to make sure you get a really good one.

Where did you end up going in the states? Why did you decide not to go to Mexico?

You can get an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty in Cary, NC with a bmi of 30. Cost is $10k. I suggest you look into it. I'm 3.5 months post procedure and have lost 40 pounds. My starting bmi was 30.4 and now I'm 24. Google True You Weight Loss for more info. MD is Dr. Christopher McGowan.

Blossom Bariatrics in Las Vegas will move forward with BMI of 30. I’ve heard great things so fingers crossed! I’m paying $6800 + my flights. Scheduled for 11/25 😬. Excited and nervous all at the same time.

Woohoo!! So excited for you! I called Blossom and they don’t take my insurance so it was actually going to cost $15,500 out of pocket! That’s awesome that they will take your insurance! Can’t wait to hear how it goes!! Keep me posted!

My BMI is 31 and my insurance won't cover the surgery. I was really looking into just doing out-of-pocket somewhere here in the states (Blossom quoted me $15K, my local hospital wouldn't even consider me without insurance EVEN with evidence of payment--shrug). I ended up going with Pompeii Surgical in Mexico and I'm scheduled for Nov 30th. Go to the "Mexico" forums to get a lot of feedback and suggestions. I looked into 3 places in Mexico and settled on this one because of the resort & spa vs a hotel room. I am nervous in general but felt like a beachside spa with several massages would help calm my nerves.

I'm a few weeks before you at Blossom - on the 14th. I fly out a week from tomorrow. It's getting real now!

I leave in a week for Blossom and a bit nervous. Would love to hear about your experience with them. Any advice?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
