mzayent 0 Posted October 5, 2020 I’m 31 and I weigh over 400 odd and I’m having trouble getting surgery date because my BMI is so high. I’ve been on this journey since 2017. I’ve been on steroids due to a lung condition. I’m miserable and don’t know what to do!
AZhiker 2,253 Posted October 5, 2020 What exactly is the problem? There are others who weigh more and who have had surgery. Do you have some risk factors that disqualify you for surgery? Please tell us more.
mzayent 0 Posted October 5, 2020 I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and you are correct being on steroids was a contributing factor. My pulmonary doctor cleared me for surgery but by that time I was on steroids for so long I gained a lot of weight and put me out of bounds for BMI goal. I stopped taking my steroids at the beginning of this pandemic. I kind of stopped going to my bariatric appointments just tired of hearing no or I can’t. They replaced my nurse practitioner also so my new was the one that kind of created more obstacles for me. I’ve been depressed for awhile because I basically went through everything and a year plus later I still have no date and will probably have to start over. The Greater Fool 2,054 Posted October 5, 2020 Welcome to the forums. Most test for surgery are only good for 6 months or so it was back when I did it. So resolve that you are basically going to have to start over. As such, if your current Doc is anxious about your high BMI then now would be the time to look for a Doc that is not scared, that can do the surgery with your other issues. You're the boss, make sure you hire a surgeon that can do the job for you. Shop around. This will be a lot of frustrating stuff to get to surgery. You need to just do it. Insurance doesn't want you to have surgery as it costs them money, so they will put things in your way hoping you quit. Surgeons are risk averse. They don't want to do surgery if there's a chance it could kill you. It makes sense, if you think about it. Again, find the Doc willing to do it. This is not a sprint it's a marathon. Just keep plugging away. Knock down anything in your path and keep moving forward. You don't cross the finish line by quitting. Good luck, Tek 1 mzayent reacted to this
mzayent 0 Posted October 5, 2020 Thank you. I figured I’d have to start over but I’m up for the challenge. I just need to do my part and not accept no for an answer. I’m very hopeful. Thank you for the response.
Angelacl 2 Posted October 6, 2020 You are right not to accept no for an answer! Once you've stepped on this road there's no going back! 1 mzayent reacted to this
Angelacl 2 Posted October 6, 2020 (edited) I can tell from my husband's experience.. He also had some troubles before the surgery itself and he was about to give up but I told him to not even think about. You cannot leave that big and hard road behind you just because a minor obstacle right before the final result! So, he believed in himself and had the surgery with positive thoughts only! Afterwards we had a long road of recovery with the help of https://kitodiet.me/ as he was on the Keto diet. All in all, your thoughts are real and they affect the reality, so be as positive as possible!
