At five months I was still eating less than 500 calories per day. From that point I went up about 100 calories per day per month. By the end of month 7, I was at goal and exercising a lot, and trying NOT to lose anymore weight. I was up to about 1,000 a day by then.

I ate in the 600-800 range then - and did for several months. After about the first year, I was pretty consistently in the 1000-1200 range.

I’m 6.5 months out, my nutritionist wants me in the 800-1,000 daily to preserve metabolism, have enough energy to be quite active, avoid burnout and boredom. I’m losing slowly, like only 1-1.25 lbs per week and may try to mix it up a bit. Maybe a few days day at 700, then a few 950, back to 700, etc. and see what happens.

I'm 9 1/2 months out and still doing approx. 600 calories per day. Sometimes I go a little over if I eat out, etc. I'm nearing goal, but still in weight loss phase for now!

I am just about 3 months out and my labs show I have not been getting enough Protein, even though I have been pretty consistently getting 60-70 g per day with 600 kcals per day. I need to bump up protein to 80 + g per day, so my kcals are going to be around 700-800 per day. I am working out pretty heavily, so we will see how this goes with my weight loss. I have been averaging around 15 pounds per month since surgery, and lost 15 pounds on the pre-op diet. While I don’t want to slow my weight loss, I also don’t want to trade my obesity related health issues for malnutrition issues.

I was around 600 per day then when I started exercising 5 days per week, I bumped up to 800. I'm about 4 months out. Even with the increased calories and a bmi of 24, I'm still losing.

At that stage, I was eating about 650 calories per day. It fluctuated a bit but that was the average.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
