I could drink 64 oz of liquid the day after surgery and since then, I've worried that I did something wrong somehow. The past couple of days since starting the puree phase, I eat more at meals than I think I'm supposed to be able to. My doctor's office said that people don't usually finish a cup of greek yogurt in one sitting but I don't find that to be a problem.

I don't even know what I'm asking. I'm just worried.

Your concerns are very common ones that folks encounter in the first weeks after surgery. You haven't done anything wrong. Water and liquids will pass through your pouch easily, so being able to drink that much is nothing unusual. You just don't want to guzzle your liquids too quickly. That's where things can go badly.

As for food, I also didn't feel much restriction in the pureed phase, though I made sure to not exceed 4 ounces because I didn't want to test things. Again...pureed foods are going to pass through a bit more quickly than solid foods will because they are soft and generally more liquid-y.

As soon as I started in on soft foods, I started feeling the restriction come into play. Suddenly 3 ounces of soft fish or chicken made me feel full. I am at the point where I can do about 4 ounces of soft food, but not consistently. Sometimes I feel full sooner and that tells me to stop.

I haven't been given the okay to start in on regular foods yet (another week or so!), but from listening to experiences of other users on this site, regular foods you will feel that restriction more acutely and quickly since those foods will linger in your pouch.

The drinking 64oz of liquid shouldn't worry you over much. There are a variety of explanations for why this might happen. As long as you did not push past more than mild resistance and pain you didn't do anything wrong.

As for the food, you need to ensure you are not breaking the rule about not drinking during meals, as this would wash the food out of your new pouch into your intestines allowing you too eat more. You would also want to be sure your not taking overly long to eat. It's a bad habit you'd be learning. If you're doing the eating thing correctly, then most of the variety of reasons why you were able to drink would apply to why your are able to eat.

Since you're having a better time eating and drinking early on than most you need to focus on not exceeding what your plan calls for. If your plan calls for specific Protein, carbs, calories, fats, etc. then you need to be sure it just so.

Good luck

Well if youre bypass just feel lucky cause some of us are capped at 2 oz. you are losing weight and pain free thats good. If you had a sleeve im not sure that you would feel the restriction as much because its like comparing your banana to my golfball when banana would be better compared w banana. Congrats on lb loss

I was the same both after MGB and RNY.

With all the people talking about "feeling stuffed after three spoons of yoghurt" it's pretty normal to ask this question.

Again, I was the same. I never could relate to patients who would struggle with "eating more than 500 cals a day".

If it's any solace to you: BMI of 22.8 here.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
