Ask your doctor about wearing a binder. I still had pain two weeks post, and my doctor recommended I wear a binder. Four days later the pain was gone.

The nagging thought in my mind: "When did this bruise appear?" You're now a little over 2 weeks post-op, while it's normal for bruising to take its sweet time in resolving and everyone heals at their own pace, I would expect any bruising incurred on your date of surgery to be fading (or at least changing colors).

Other thoughts:

  • You were likely given anti-coagulants immediately post-op. Do you remember any shots in your belly? If so, these could have caused some additional bruising on your belly.
  • Has it gotten worse in the last week?
  • Is it painful or just unsightly?

Regardless of my thoughts and questions, my advice to you is to contact your doctor's office and let them know. If it's nothing, then at least you've gained the peace of mind by being told by the doctor it's normal and/or nothing to worry about.

Disclaimer: none of the above is intended to be medical advice. As always, look to your doctor for medical-related questions/concerns.

I had my procedure this past Monday, September 21st. I have some bruising myself. Just a small spot on the right because they had to inflate me during surgery. A heating pad is helpful and so is walking.

I thought I was the only one to bruise like I did. It was so bad I took a picture of it. Half my stomach and wrapped halfway around my back! Took a little over 3 1/2 weeks to finally go away from surgery day.

The 9th was a while ago... I think I'd be a little concerned if it is still dark and not like greenish or yellowish at this point. Probably should at least give the surgeon's office a heads up as to the bruising, and see if that is considered normal this far out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
