Isopure drinks - good or bad?

Recommended Posts

Still trying to find a post-op Protein Drink that I actually like. I haven't had luck with the powders as I just can't get used to them and even though I've tried the Unjury unflavored, I can still taste it and can't stand it. I came across "Isopure" and have read VERY mixed reviews. Some people say it's an amazing post-op drink, packed with Protein, and tastes pretty good. However, according to the nutrition label, it's also high in sodium and calories. On one website, the reviews reflected as being BOTH an outstanding drink for weightloss/post-op bariatric surgery AND for gaining weight (bodybuilders). So, which is it? Also, any idea where it's sold in less than a 12pk? $40+ for a 12pk on Amazon for something I'm not even sure I'll like seems like a lot. For clarity - here's a pic of the product I'm talking about.

If you are talking about the Iso100 Clear drinks I have been using them. I don't particularly enjoy the taste though. To me they are sickeningly sweet, but I drink on anyway because I need to get the Protein in. Of course I don't mind powders, but everyone is different. If there is a way for you to maybe try one or two first and then get more if you don't mind them I would do that. I got a variety pack thinking I'd pick my favorite flavor, but I really don't see myself getting more of them.

Thanks for the info. I added a pic to my original post to clarify the product I'm talking about.

These are what they gave me after surgery and by far my favorite. My active teen boys fell in love with them, too. Unfortunately, our favorite is lemonade which has recently gone into backorder, but we’ve tried most of the other flavors and they are good, too. We add them to smoothies drink them straight and have even made ice cubes out is them.

i sent a request (and encourage everyone to, also) to the company to develop a powdered version which would be cheaper and more environmentally friendly so we aren’t shipping the liquid.

I'm a big fan of Premier Protein's Mango flavored drink.

The Isopure clear drinks are fine - I don't really like them (they have the consistence of anti-freeze) but use them when I am on a clear diet, such as before a colonoscopy. Usually, I mix them in with Jello and that makes them more tolerable..

Calories are fine - 160 cal for 40g Protein means that all the calories are from protein - what you want at this stage of things. Sodium doesn't look terrible, and is rarely a problem while we are in a losing phase as we are eating so little overall; some people will actually run overly low on sodium at this stage.

If you like them, go for it.

They are soooooo disgusting. I'm so glad 8 only purchased one for GNC. I have Premier Protein peach coming today from Amazon and praying it's a tolerable flavor. Its such a balance trying to find what you can stand. I can't endure the Protein Shakes so I am consistently in a game of trial and error of how to get my Protein down.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
