December Post-Op Thread

Thanx for the support TXBandit.

I am feeling much better today. No pain in incisions/port area, little gas, hunger is under control.

Of course now I have Constipation. . .but that is for another thread:-))

Hey TXBandit-

It is weird how we are all on different diets. . .I had/have 4 days of Clear Liquids followed by 17 days of all liquids including Soups, blended stuff, etc. Day 21 I go on solids.

I am hungry on Day 6. I still have some gas and a growling stomach. I am worried about making it to Day 21 without any solids at all. I figure I will try some yogurt and Jello today to see if it helps the hunger pains.

A lot of people talk about the fills being the really important in getting the journey underway for the long term. Will the hunger go away with the fills? I am worried that the hunger is never going to go away:faint:

Constipation cure - Water, water and water. It really does the trick. Seems like I am drinking all the time. My instructions say 6 to 8 ounces of liquid every 45 minutes to an hour. It has helped me not to be hungry at all also. Love the SF popsicles. Yesterday, I tried Sprite Zero. I am not usually a sprite love but it tasted really good. My husband didn't finish his and left it on the counter overnight. All of the carbonation was gone so I thought I would taste it. I ended up finishing it. I am so limited in what I can that I am looking for new tastes. Soups aren't on my menu until the mushie stage in two more weeks. Other than milk and Protein Drinks everything else is clear, SF and caffein-free beverages and Jello.< /p>

I am feeling so well that I am venturing out on my own today to Christmas shop at the mall. I found one that has valet parking and they will assemble my scooter for me. I have arthritic knees and use it when mall shopping or traveling. I am so excited to get out of the house.

Glad to see everyone else is doing well. This has been so easy that I wish I had done it years ago.

Good luck to those on the calendar today and tomorrow. I can't believe it will be a week tomorrow for me. My scales are going down daily but I am not publishing my loss until the official weigh-in at the doctor's on Friday.

My date is 12/28 so its coming up. The two week liquid diet pre-op is tough to say the least. I hate the taste of the drinks that I have and that's most of the problem. No room to complain - its all relative! Just anxious to get this going. Thank you so much to everyone that has posted. It has been so incredibly helpful! Best of luck to everyone ;)

I think we all get anxious for the next step. I know it seemed like my surgery date would never come. Now I'm waiting for my first fill and my post op. We know we are so close to a breakthrough, and none of us can wait, we've battled with our weight for so long, and we see a light at the end of the tunnel, but it's a LONG tunnel ...

I have an appt. for my first fill on Jan. 3, but I'm having redness around my port and I'm worrying that they will not fill me yet. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if the dr. can check me out. I'm hoping for the best, but worried.

Hi folks. My surgery was 12/11 and I am pretty much back to 100% by now. Everything went pretty well for me although I must admit the 1st night was a doosy. I had the most terrible pain in my shoulder that I screamed out in pain a few times. My surgery was in an outpatient surgery center and I went to the hotel as soon as I woke up. Luckily the hotel room had a recliner, because I needed it. I flew back home the day after surgery and I took my last dose of pain meds on the plane and never took another. I never even needed tylenol. I had to sleep in my recliner at home for 4 or 5 nights, then I was back in the bed and back to normal. Everything is good for now and I'm going for my first fill on January 15th. Good luck to everyone.

I was finally banded yesterday in St. Louis. It went amazingly well. A little stiff at incision area and some pains from gas but its tolerable. Went to the grocery store on the way home to get a script filled and took a short nap this afternoon but that was it. Haven't needed any pain medicine yet which is amazing to me. No problems thus far with nausea, hunger or keeping anything down. I'm so very thankful for how things have gone thus far. Several people have said that day two and three are worse. I hope not. Thanks to all who have posted. Its been so helpful reading all of your posts. Good luck to all!

Hey all, was banded on Wed. 12/26 and am feeling pretty good today. Surgery was a breeze and besides gas pains and sore incisions all else is well. Love reading all the posts of people experiencing the same things as me, helps to know that I'm not alone in these feelings. Hunger is starting to return today, but I'm still full off Jello and Water so that's good for now. Tomorrow will add Protein Shakes - never thought I'd look forward to drinking one of those ;-) Keep up the great work all. Will write more soon. Peace and joy to all. KKG

I was banded on the December 28th at Harper Hospital in Detroit with Dr Weiner. I got there on the 27th and they set me and my hubby at their International Housing. It was and old dorm that they turned into housing. It was old but clean. We decided to go to the movies that night to get my mind off of the surgery. I had never had surgery before so I was very scared. We got to the hospital at 530 am and had all preops done then. My surgery was scheduled for 730 am and it was on time. When I got into the OR I started crying because I was so scared. I almost backed out but I figured I came this far why stop now. All went well with the surgery. I stayed overnight and I was nauteous for most of the first day and I even vomited but they gave me meds to help. We went home (drove 5 hours) the next day without complications. I will say that I was very tired to start out the trip and just felt miserable. About halfway home my husband talked me into a popsicle that was not sugarfree. I felt so much better after I ate that. I think my sugars were low or something. I am home now. I slept like a baby last night thanks to the liquid vicodin they gave me. I feel a lot better today. I truly recommend Dr. Weiner and Harper Hospital. they were so attentive. It is a teaching hospital so I had lots of residence come to check on me. So far so good, thank you Jesus!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
