Hello everyone, I am new here to the forum and my journey begins today. I have wanted to get the lap-band surgery for many years but only recently joined an insurance plan that would pay for it. Otherwise I was about to pay out of pocket. (thank goodness I waited) I am excited like you wouldn't believe. I really feel the procedure will help change my life. :)

I am a fairly social person even as a big man. I have always tried to let my size not get in the way of living. But I have to say at 40, things are getting a bit tougher and the body getting a bit beat up. I am a musician and it is getting harder to play those long gigs. Getting real sick of taking all sorts of meds and pain killers. My quality of life is starting to take a hit so I know I have to do something before it is too late.

Today, 12/02/07, I begin my pre-op liquid diet. My surgery is 12/06/07. The procedure will be performed by Dr. Robert Snow in Hurst, TX. I had a big Cowboy Cut Ribeye at Kirbys last night just to say goodbye to the old man. Today is hello to the new. I know it will be a tough week but I will take it one day at a time. I am drinking fruit smoothies, muscle milk lean muscle drinks, blended Soups and V8. Any food suggestions are welcome.

I have gathered a lot of information here in the forum and help to share my own success stories with you folks soon.

I LOVE Kirbys!!!! - To be honest, haven't had red meat since being banded, and have lost all craving / desire for a good TX steak. Best of Luck to you, please update once out of surgery!!

Thunder...WELCOME my man! You have a great attitude and you are gonna see changes coming in the next months that you never though possible! That's absoutely right...take it a day at a time. Don't look at the long run....set MANY MANY mini-goals for yourself (and if you are a weenie about following through, make sure the first ones are easily attainable to give you a big boost!). Because you are only 40, you have a long life ahead of you (without the weight of course....because with that weight your active lifestyle would be coming to a screeching halt very soon now). I am thrilled for you. Jump on into the pre-op/post-op and general discussion area and get those big feet wet! You've got a lot of companions in the wings waiting to support you on your travels!!!

Welcome to lapband talk. The only thing I would recommend is plenty of Protein Shakes. Creamy Soups were a life saver for me when I got hungry. They seem to have kept me fuller because of the milk used. Good luck. I want a ribeye steak!

Thanks for your support to all of you. I look at the weight lost by many of you and I am excited. I made it through my first day yesterday of the liquid diet and what do you know, I didn't go crazy or anything. Would be pretty sad if I couldn't make it through one day!!

Today I woke up and was not really hungry like I thought I would be. Blending a can of Soup is just wrong! I don't even have to say what it looks like. :P But the thought of losing this fat is like adrenalin pushing me on.

Hi Thunder, and welcome to LBT! It sounds like you have a great attitude and will do well with the band.

I hear you about turning 40 and the ol' body not being what it used to be. My weight never used to slow me down, but it sure started to about the time I hit 39. Now that I am 41 and losing weight, I am starting to feel so much better. The difference in energy level is amazing.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

(p.s., My parents owned a fancy steakhouse, so I grew up on steak. I have no problem eating a nice filet mignon. The cut is good and it goes down well. Just eat it in moderation).

Good Luck TW I am new to this forum. I actually have my first consult appt with a Dr. In Glendale, CA on Thursday. Im excited. I have been in such a good mood since I decided I wanted to do this. I too am 40 and seems like all of the sudden my body is tiring out. I want to be active again and am looking forward to it.

My Mom is 67 and had RNY last year and has lost over 100lbs. She really suffered for years with the extra weight and was basically house bound. My Dad had to take care of her.

You wouldnt believe her transformation! Besides looking great, she is so much more active....no she isnt running marathons, but she is able to enjoy activities with her kids and Grandkids. Its nice to have her back!

I want to be able to play and keep up with my kids and enjoy my passions which I am too afraid to pursue any longer due to my weight...skiing, horseback riding, white Water rafting etc.

I feel like I have renewed hope and seeing others success is so inspiring...so keep posting!!

good luck and I will keep you posted!

Kat

Lana24, I see you already have a good start at 8lbs. I am sure you will do great. Stay tuned!

thanks thunder,

One of the really hard parts for me is that I always plateau at 172...I am hoping the band will help me see a smaller number...

Okay, I have to say this. I've loved steak and prime rib all my life and I thought I had had a good steak....until....I went to Ruth Cris Steakhouse. Now this place is HIGH. I mean, a small steak was something like $30, and it basically came with....uh....nothing else. But it was my Mom's 80th birthday and my brother was paying, so I jumped in and ordered one. OMG!!!!!!!!!! I have NEVER tasted anything like that before or since (!) in my LIFE! You could have cut it with a SPOON. It MELTED in your mouth. It had the most amazing texture I have ever witnessed in my LIFE! It was one of those "AHA!" moments when I suddenly looked around and said "SO THAT's what a GOOD steak is like!" It was an incredible experience, and one everyone shouuld have at least once.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
