1 week out from surgery

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Sept 10, 2020.

When I woke up, I expected to be in a lot of pain, but there was minimum pain! Yay! However, I am seriously exhausted!

Now we wait and see what the weight does. I am at 251 this morning (9/18/2020).

Hope that you are doing well! I was sleeved on the 8th. I was also lucky and not in a lot of pain.

I am hardly hungry... and I have been walking. It really does help the recovery.

Good luck to you!

I had almost no pain with this. In fact, that's fairly common (although some unlucky folks do experience pain...)

I had nerve blocks on both sides of my abdomen with my surgery. They were supposed to last 3 days. I never had any pain at all. Actually, my RNY is probably the easiest surgery I've ever had.

I'm 3 days out from mine. I have some incision pain when I overdo it, but overall things have been good. I did notice this morning that I'm starting to feel more tired, but I'm sure that will pass as everything adjusts.

I just find it interesting that the laparoscopic surgery is as painless as it is. I had a massive hiatal hernia fixed at the same time.

One additional thing. Does anyone’s stomach rumble all the time?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
