I don't go to see my surgeon until the 17th of December (he lives a long drive away) so I thought I would check with my the band family to see if anyone can help in the meantime. My port scar looks great except for one little spot in the middle that is red and inflamed with a small scab (banded 23rd October) Of course I picked it today (I Couldn't help it) and low and behold out came a small twisted piece of "string" - obviously a surgical suture that hasn't yet dissolved. It broke and I have been left with a small hole in my scar with a piece of string hanging out of it. I am worried that I won't be able to get a fill on the 17th -(haven't had one yet) or that something that was supposed to be stitched in place no longer is. Will probably head to my local doc to get it checked but was wondering if anyone else has had anything similar happen or knows what may be going on. Thanks in advance.

I do not want to change your mind about asking your doc but I had the same thing happen to me. I pulled a couple of stringy stitches out and everything was fine.

Good Luck

Hi, I found in one of my incisions something I could feel sticking out, that felt like fishing line, is the best way to describe it. I gave it a tug and felt some resistance so I left it, worried I was going to do some damage. A couple of weeks later I saw my doc and told him, he reassured me that it was ok, as it was a dissolvable stitch that when dissolving can pop up and become visable through the incision. He even said that I could have pulled it out, so I'd check with doc but it sounds pretty much what I experienced and it will be ok. Hope this puts you at ease somewhat. I know when I found mine and pulled it I was so worried.

Cheers Penny:girl_hug:

This is very typical. I "spit stitches" too, though not out of my port incision. If it appears to be pulled apart or gaping, get a butterfly bandage and tape that area shut. You should be fine.

My surgeon pulled out some of my stitches that were sticking out at my one month appt - then more popped and before I had a chance to ask him to take those out, they fell out. Yours might fall out before the 17th but if not ask the doctor to snip them out.

Thanks everyone - you've confirmed what I thought. I have made an appointment with my local doctor though because the area is very red and looks a bit infected. A friend who is a nurse said it was better to get it checked in case it was a low grade infection that needs clearing up as I don't want to drive 2 and half hours on the 17th and not be able to get my first fill. Thanks again everyone. You've put my mind at ease.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
