I have not heard of PDA software for exercise and nutrition. However Calorie King have software for your computer, they also have a book/s for such a thing.

I have not purchased it. I have done the trial offer, not too impressed life is too hectic in my household for electronics. Unless I had a PDA, I have to write everything down and keep it with me, in order to keep track of every morsel.

Hi Trina

We have the same date!

I used a program called Balance log on my palm. I used it for a year and loved it. There's a link to a review

ok, i've been reading through this whole site for about 2 weeks now and all of you either have inspired me, lessened my fear, or made me even more exicted to get this show on the road!

i have my very first appt with the docs at true results in dallas on the 8th and am hoping to get my band done by march-ish. i have UHC and from what i've read here they seem to be the easiest to get approval from so the only thing i'm worried about is coming up with my 20% out of pocket that i have to come up with. (4 kids + 2 car payments + 1 new house = LOTS OF BILLS!!) but that's why i'm thinking my surgery will be in march because i'm going to use my tax refund to get mine done. sorry DH, he doesn't know yet that he won't be getting that 62 inch flat screen now, but on the upside he'll soon have a sexy smokin' hot wife! a lot better to look at i think!

anyhoo, that's my story so far, i'm sure i'll be back to update ya'll next week!

I went to my ob-gyn to get a recommendation for the surgery for my insurance requirements. Also for a checkup and Pap smear (it's been 4 years since my last visit). He was very positive about the lapband and said he had seen some very good results with his patients, so that made me feel better. He definitely did not try to talk me out of it.

Oh - he said he would give me the recommendation for the surgery, so I am one step closer. Have the seminar on the 16th and surgeon consult sometime after that.

Hi Friends!

I just found out my surgery date, which is March 11th. I could've had Feb 7th, but I'm having breast reduction done at the same time, as I have upper back problems too. The plastic surgeon said that I shouldn't sag, but I may end up smaller after losing weight. Big deal! I'm so tired of lugging these things around! Anyway, I have my class and tests (EKG, blood work, etc.) on Feb 26th. This will interfere with my golfing for a few weeks, but the end justifies the means, eh?

I'm just overwhelmed with happiness right now. :) Finally, something is going right for a change!!!!

My doctor won't give me a date or even get insurance approval until I do my 6 month dr visits and all the other tests done first. I hate this waiting to find out if I will even be able to have the surgery. I will have my last dr appt around the middle to end of february. Seems like its forever.

I have a question for you all I have a bmi in the 50's but have never really dieted this is the first time I have really put out much of an effort to lose weight and I have lost about 24 pounds in the past 6 months. Before all I would do is say I was gonna watch what I was eating and within 2 days I gave up. So my question is wonder if my insurance would pay for surgery when I have never really dieted in the past.

Gosh, I have no idea! I've tried all kinds of diets: WeightLossForever, SlimFast, Protein Shakes, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Atkins......all of which were successful to a point. Either I couldn't afford it anymore or I lost 20-30 pounds then reached a plateau & got discouraged & quit. I've also, in the past, had sleep studies done (no sleep apnea though, which is good!) and had blood work recently done to check my cholesterol & glucose & thyroid. My cholesterol was a little high, but the rest were fine. I have had 2 sugeries on one of my knees and upper back disk issues. I'd think that if your BMI is over 40 or 35 with a one or more of their predefined health risks then you should be ok. I'm no expert though. After hearing me talk about the procedure, my cousin started looking into it and is now attending the 6 months of classes that her insurance requires before she can have the procedure. She has 2 of the health risks and her BMI is over 40. Since your not boarderline with your BMI I'd think that you should be fine. I guess it depends on your insurance too. They may want to see some kinda progress or show that you'd be committed. Who knows? As long as they get your money it's a guessing game from there!

My GP referred me to AIGB, but only one of their doctors is "in-network" for my Aetna HMO, so I have never even met my surgeon, and I don't know when I will! All of my tests and stuff are supposed to be finished by 2/21/08, so I hope he comes to town before then!:nervous

Hi all

My name is Amanda and I just received my surgery date, March 4th. ...

In ancient Rome March was the first month of the new year and named after the god of war Mars. I will be starting a new year of big change in the war on weight!

Welcome all who join me!!

Hi, Amanda. I'm Reba. I like the way you think! So should our surgery month group name be something like "The Martians?" (Little green women)

Well I have been called a space cadet before.

On another note I looked up the goddess of war (and wisdom) and found Athena. Which I find interesting. A few years ago I did a Triathlon (swam 1k!) the divisions were broken up as teams/men/women/teen and then they had the Clydesdale and Athena division for the "big" competitors (M>210&F>160lbs). Even when I make it to my goalweight (165) I will still be in the "big" division.

Whatever.:)

Well, for now , we're both Clydesdale mares, and I certainly don't want us to be called THAT!

Athena's Marchers might be ok.

Has a nice ring to it....."Athena's Marchers". Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice and skill. We want justice with our weight issues...right???? We also have a war against fat & food!!! Also, Athena was given the favored city, which she named Athens because she had the better gift to give. Athena's gift was an olive tree, which was better because it gave the people food, oil and wood. Food again!!! But, olive oil is the "healthy choice". Am I reading too much into this? Jeez, food, can we EVER get away from it?????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
