Getting "Gagged Out" on protein shakes. Need another way

Recommended Posts

I am now so gagged out on shakes and trying to gag down Protein Drinks. I just don't know what to do. I tried mixing powder in with yogurt. (BARF).

I thought about bars. But most have chocolate or artificial sweeteners.

I need some guidance. PLEASE!!!

i went to puree one week post op surgeon gave me a list of foods. It really helped a ton. I was less nauseas and everything. I think it was the nasty Premier Protein. I was regurgitating it at night. I have orange Bariatric Advantage now that I am going to turn into frozen popsicles with this item on Amazon to try to help with Protein.

Try Protein Water. I think you can get them at Walmart. I drank a grape and fruit punch one that tasted similar to the Mio flavoring. I didn't like the chalky after taste but if I poured it over ice so it was super cold I could drink it. Can you try mixing a Protein Drink with milk? That would help thin it out of if it seems too sweet. There are a lot of high protein Greek yogurts and Fairlife milk has more protein than regular milk. Also try drinking the protein drink over ice. If it was thinned out form the ice and super cold I could drink it easier.

If you are allowed coffee you could try mixing some vanilla Protein Shake in as Creamer. I also used the Unjury brand of non flavored powder. You can get a sample pack of unflavored, flavored shake mixes (mix with Fairlife milk) and Soups. Just make sure the liquid for soups is not too hot or the powder with clump.

Try Bowmar Protein the vegan ones are a little bit gritty feel but the regular ones are insanely flavorful and if you like sweet and yummy flavors they are great they also have flavored protein butters. Just look maybe try some samples I did and I am going to order some more. Here are a few I tried.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
