Right Rice anyone?

Recommended Posts

I'm about a month out and my nutritionist said I may be able to move to regular foods! I'm still going to keep up good eating habits but rice is kryptonite haha. Has anyone tried the Right Rice brand? or is a veteran and can deduce if this would be a safe alternative to rice that's okay to eat post-op?

Great. That is going to be so nice.

For me, when I started this whole journey, I met with my nutritionist and I told her for months I had only been eating beans...chili Beans, kidney beans, chickpeas, green beans, brussel sprouts, spinach, salads, fish, plant based Proteins (full of carbs) and I was so strick and couldn't lose a POUND! I was like WTH? NO white breads, ALWAYS WHOLE GRAIN, no rice, no potatoes. Girl, I was so good...or so I thought. She told me that I was getting too many CARBS in the BEANS!!!!. All beans, fruits, veggies, are NOT created equal. I cut everything out, did what she said and lost 47 pounds in like 2.5 months!!!!

I know you were told it's ok and maybe it is for you, just be careful that's all. :) And enjoy!

I can't answer your question because I've never seen that product, but have you tried cauliflower rice? I hate cauliflower, but somehow, cauliflower rice is not bad! I wouldn't eat it by itself, but with sauce and mix-ins (like meat and vegetables), I can almost convince myself that it's actual rice. It's very low in calories and carbs, and you get the added benefit of eating more veggies.

One of the issues with rice is it swells in your small tummy filling you up. Rightrice still contains some rice so that would be a concern for me.

I notice it has 25g of carbs in 1/3 cup which is a lot for a single serve. The same amount of rice has 15g.

I always enjoyed rice before surgery but I haven’t eaten it since & don’t miss it. Same with bread & Pasta. I know others can successfully eat it again in maintenance, but I believe consuming carbs from bread, rice & pasta mean weight gain for me. I feel way less bloated. Nor do I feel weighted down after a meal without them. But this is what I’ve found is working for me. You have to discover what works for you.

I’d go down the cauliflower rice path if you want a similar texture. You can even use it to make a pizza base.

This "right rice" stuff sounds a bit like the "rice" made out of legumes sold bei Explore Cuisine.

Check the ingredient list of "right rice". If it reads like chemistry class, I wouldn't buy it. If there are only the legumes listed I'd maybe give it a try.

So pre surgery I was a rice junkie! I ate rice every day with every meal, even Breakfast so I get you wanting to find an alternative.

I would try cauliflower rice and seasoning it up, maybe a caulirice stir fry just to trick your mind and taste buds. But I agree with @Arabesque and watch out for the swelling, especially being 1 month post op.

I found it being easier cutting it out completely. Sometimes when I'm at a party or family get together Ill have a bite or two but no more than that. With time you'll grow to love your new eating habits and diet :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
