Mine is on Wednesday the 28th. I'm terrified too. I am hoping that this will be the start to a healthier life, but of course I am afraid of the recovery process. A calm mind and healing thoughts your way :)

Let us know how it goes!

Just remember it’s a process and not a quick fix. Nervous is to be expected in any surgery, but it will be over before you know it. Due to a couple hernias mine was 2.5 hrs but it felt like a minute. Recovery takes time but all things do. Take it slow and focus on the goal.

Support is the best thing you can do. Take things slow. I had mine on 10/19 and am a week end. It will take a little while for the good habits to take root. Do what you can to support them whether eating healthy with her, cooking recommended food, removing the bad stuff from the panty (if it didn’t happen pre-op) and just being there. This is a positive step to a healthy and life sustaining path so reinforce that you appreciate her sacrifice. I would encourage empathy but not sympathy. Empathy is understanding she is in pain while sympathy is doing stuff for her because of the pain. Movement helps so make sure she is up and moving And doing things for herself. In a couple weeks, consider joining her on walks. Please reach out if you have any specific questions and she is lucky to have you.

It’s been one week and I think all is progressing well. Here is my routine at this point:

Premier Protein shake, 4oz 3xday; 32oz Water, 20oz homemade chicken stock

1oz liquid Tylenol (2-3x day)- as much for the superficial thrombosis left over from the IV with a painful knot in the vein Down from where it was. Incision site pain is negligible. B12 sublingual, Gas-x 3xday, prescribed heart burn med, blood pressure pill (hope to get rid of this one soon), two children chewable Multivitamins.

I’m down 23lbs from pre-op diet weight (300) and 10 from Pre-surgery. Low day was Friday we’re I was not a happy camper, but seeing the weight loss is a motivator. I’m heading back to work tomorrow to help establish that routine, but it shouldn’t be too bad since I telework. Just gotta remember to drink.

Not sure if it is allowed, but I added a little curry powder to me chicken stock last night and it helped change the flavor profile for the positive. As we know, the good stuff is always bad for us right :) we’ll, it was yummy and no side effects today so I might try to add some Asian flavors today. Not to worry, still sticking to liquids just jazzing them up a little. If anyone has heard this is a no-no, shout out and let me know. Curry was a no-no pre-op due to the turmeric (natural blood thinner) but no warnings post op.

2days to go for sleeve surgery. I am excited and nervous and happy and a little anxious and feeling blessed and so so, so many thoughts racing thru my head lol Just gonna go with the flow and be thankful for the gift I have, to feel comfortable, in my own skin again!

All your thoughts are natural so keep up the positive attitude and you’ll be where you want to be in no time at all.

I was supposed to have my gastric sleeve in May, but this pandemic forced me to wait longer. I had my surgery this past Friday (10/23), and so far, it hasn’t been a walk in the park. I have my good moments, but there’s times when I have really bad internal pain due to gas movement, as well as pain in one of my incision sights. I wish I could zoom through this moment so that I could feel better 😭

Congrats on your surgery and I hope you get feeling better soon. The gas will pass in time (poorly timed pun I know). Movement is the key so walk around as much as possible and I’ve been steady on the gas-x. Day four and five were the worst for me pain wise and I sipped on liquid Tylenol every four hours. Turned the corner on day six. Still a little pain but I can actually squeeze my abs without major pain this morning. Deep breaths and remember this is just the start of our wonderful journey. The pain we have now is just a reminder of the commitment we have all Made for a better future.

Just an FYI and follow-up - dietician recommended against the adding of curry powder during the healing phase so week4. Just wanted to share since I mentioned it.

Sounds like you’re doing great!!! Good luck on going back to work! I’m worried about that too, but not starting until Election Day. 😬 I am one week today too. I am moving well, and my abs have felt good, but I have a lot of pressure still in my upper abdomen and some burning type pains between incision sites. Today is a bad pain day, but I went 3 days without any Tylenol, so it’s just ups and downs. Still can’t stomach whey Protein, and until the dietician messages me back, the doctor won’t ok something else, so I am doing my best with milk and such to get the protein in. I have eaten cream of chicken Soup, Sugar Free Chocolate pudding, and watered down cream of wheat. Today I sipped on a skim Decaf latte from Starbucks which felt so good, because it is normal! My swelling is going down. It took until Saturday to be back to pre-op weight, although I did get the extra day of fluids with the 2-day hospital stay. Biggest drama now are some mild, but weird side effects that I am working on with the doctor: lovonox injection site that keeps bleeding, red dotted rash on belly, hands getting hot/red/fiercely itchy in hot Water and going away once dry, tons of bruising near my lower abdomen incisions. Does anyone else have major bruising?

Thanks Lilfootie. I too had bruising around the incision sites which is not surprising after laparoscopic. I envy your ability to eat the things your are having as I am strictly forbidden from any type of dairy, creamed Soups, cream of wheat, etc until week three. Hopefully your Dr. can figure out your protein intolerance and maybe put you on a neutral plant based protein or something else. Wise choice waiting until after the election day madness. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
