I started the pre-op diet on Wed 9/11 and thought that my system should have adjusted to the diet by now, but I still have a lot of bloated, gassy, feeling and my stools are loose. I am not able to eat raw vegetables and salad due to medical issues, so I know that it isn't from that and I don't drink cow milk. Is anyone else having this trouble? Mostly I am having two Premier drinks and one meal a day that has 3-6 grams of Protein, no more that 30-50 carbs, and unlimited vegetables (which are all cooked). In between drinks, when I get hungry, I have a homemade vegetable Soup that I snack on. I don't see how any of this should be a problem......

maybe the Protein Shakes? Maybe there's something in there that your system can't tolerate? Like maybe whatever artificial sweetener they use? (some people get gastric distress from certain artificial sweeteners). Are you able to try another brand - or do they want you on Premier?

I have a couple of other Proteins to choose from, but they are pricey. I have never had a problem with artificial sweeteners before and have been using them most of my life. I could get a couple of the other brands just to see if there is a difference, but I don't know how I would afford to buy them if that was the problem.

if you've never had problems with artificial sweeteners before, then that's probably not what's going on. Not sure. Obviously there's something that's upsetting your system, though. Keep us posted....

When I did my pre-op for my VSG I had loose stools and was gassy. When I did my pre-op for my VSG to RNY revision I was constipated and bloated even with the same diet. Some people experience loose stools and lots of gas with a mostly or all liquid diet. Just depends on your body and how it wants to handle things. Hang in there, the loose stools and gassiness didn’t last forever for me, just a few days so hopefully the same for you!

For the second week of my pre-op diet, I was only allowed to have liquids. I was supposed to have 4 Protein Shakes per day (although I only managed to get that many on one day) plus broth, sugar-free Jello, and sugar-free popsicles. I got really bad bloating from the Protein shakes. I had one especially bad night when I was so bloated and nauseated that I couldn't sleep. I hadn't experienced that during the first week of the pre-op diet when I was drinking 2 shakes per day plus a small meal of lean protein and veggies. I don't think it was the shakes, per se, but the fact that I was drinking so many of them and that was pretty much all I was consuming. I was actually kind of relieved on the last day before surgery when all I could have was Clear Liquids so I didn't have to drink any shakes that day!

So maybe it is the shakes then. Did you use the pre mixed or did you mix them yourself? I am going to only use the almond milk for the next couple days and see if that helps. Thanks for your input and I'll be waiting to hear if you mixed your own and what kind of milk you used.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
