MCrocker623 2 Posted September 5, 2020 I had a sleeve done on 8/31, so I’m 6 days post op! I’m doing well, and every day since I’ve been home I’ve met my Protein goals while getting around 40-60 oz of fluids. Today has been a nightmare though. Protein of any form isn’t sitting well, my whole belly is full of pressure, and it’s uncomfortable to get any Fluid down. Is this normal at any point? Any tips on what to do? 1 GreenTealael reacted to this
lisafrommassachusetts 319 Posted September 6, 2020 Lots of people have very bad gas after the surgery; Walking seemed to be the only thing that helped. I also had trouble with Constipation for a bit after surgery, and I ended up having to use Miralax. If you can't get fluids in I, however, I would not wait very long before reaching out to your surgical team.
MCrocker623 2 Posted September 6, 2020 I won’t. Today is the first day I’ve been under 45 oz for the day! If it continues much longer I’ll call for sure! I’m also just a little confused because I have had pain in my shoulder and this fullness doesn’t feel at all like gas 😭
lisafrommassachusetts 319 Posted September 6, 2020 Shoulder pain can be gas. Per WEBMD: Belly surgery. If you have laparoscopic surgery, which is done through a small cut, on your belly to remove your gallbladder, make your stomach smaller for weight loss, or for other reasons, you might get shoulder pain afterward. That happens to up to two-thirds of people who have the surgery. Laparoscopic surgery can make your body hang on to carbon dioxide in your belly area. That can irritate your spine and nerves, which can trigger shoulder pain.
Kaysmithb 0 Posted September 6, 2020 (edited) I had surgery the same day, and had INTENSE shoulder and neck pain from the gas. Walk walk walk walk! I’m so sorry! It hurts, but does do better with movement! Good job on the fluids and protein! I’m super excited I’m hitting 48 oz today! Good luck! also, was feeling all kinds of pressure last night, and choked down some chamomile tea, which seemed to help. I know the shoulder pain is from the gas, the belly pain is weirdly different! I’ll keep trying to walk. Also sipping chamomile tea now. Thank you for the heads up! I have good days n i have bad days. In the scientific data shoulder pain can be symptom of leak which is more common in vsg than bypass. I would mention all symptoms to clinic because leak has more than one symptom and if you check the boxes for it they might want to see you. I wish u some comfort on your bad days and suggest heating pad and icepacks whichever you like lol
