I am starting my journey soon, and I am wondering about how long it takes to get thru everything and to ur surgery date. I have been told I have to do classes, meet nutritionist, meet surgeon, have and egd, do 30 day liquid diet, and meet with counselor. This all sounds like its going to be like a 6 month time frame. What r others experience with this??

It depends on your insurance and Bariatrics centers guidelines. My policy did not require the supervised diet for BMI’s over 40. I started my process on June 23 and surgery is tomorrow, so a little over two months. There are plus’ and minus’ for an accelerated process though.

My process included; an interest seminar, consultation with surgeon, psych evaluation, abdominal ultrasound, clearance by my primary care physician, EGD, EKG, blood work, dietician consult, pre-op surgery class, and final pre-op visit with surgeon.

Good luck!

Well it depends if your insurance has a weight management program requirement. They made me do a 6 month weight management program, but some insurance only requires a 3 month program while others don't require one at all. My surgeons office was also booked out so my whole WLS journey took 8 months from the first appointment to my surgery date. It's worth it though!

I started the process in June and had surgery Thursday. My insurance did not require a supervised diet and I was able to skip the sleep doctor. I had to do three nutritionist appointments, psych, EKG, gastroenterology and tons of bloodwork.

I had to do a six-month supervised diet, but I did that before i formally joined the program (my insurance would accept it as long as it was done within the previous two years, so I was fine with getting it knocked out ahead of time). So with that requirement out of the way, I started my program in January and could have had the surgery in March (after I finished the other requirements - classes, sleep study, stress test, EKG, etc) -- but because I worked in academia, my supervisor wanted me to wait until the school year was over to have it - so I waited until June. But otherwise, I could have had it done three months after I started the program (since I did the six-month thing ahead of time)

I have to go thru most of all that to but with my work schedule and time off its going to take to do all these appointments I was thinking at least 4 to 6 months. I have to have pto for it to be paid time. Thats alot of appointments and then the time off work for recovery. Good luck with ur surgery

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
